Lescrawl, Human (varient) fighter/rogue (duelist/assassin) uses a whip made out of the teeth of his vanquished foes (reach).

He like to sneak up on opponents and use his whip on em, or attack them when they are distracted or fighting someone else. He uses the reach of the whip to avoid getting hit in combat, while still doing significant damage because of his duelist bonus and sneak attack damage.

Level 9 Fighter 5/rogue 4

Human varient feat Human determination (Brings dex to 18)
level 4 +2 dex (brings it to 20).
Level 8 feat Alert feat (+5 to initiative, can't get advantage by being hidden from him)

Fighter Archtype is Chainmaster (bone whip counts as apposed to chain specialist). While using his bone whip, he gains all the abilities of a Chain Master (1d4 extra damage, and crit range of 19-20 when not moving that turn).

Rogue Archtype is assassin. Get advantage against any enemy slower then you in initiative, and auto crit if they are surprised.

At 10, would take rogue 5, to get 3d6 sneak attack and uncanny dodge (significant increase in defense and more damage).

He gets expertise (at rogue 1) in sneak and acrobatics (with his 20 dex that gives him +11 to both)

His bone whip is magical in natural, basically equivalent to a Whip +1.

Stats are:

Str 11
Dex 20
Con 13
Wis 12
Int 11
Cha 9

Hp are (at level 9), 67.

He wears STudded leather armor +1 (so AC is 18 base). He has a backup shield to make it 20 in a pinch.

At 10 he gets uncanny dodge which lets him halve the damage of 1 hit per round as well.

He does not talk much and is an assassin for hire. He collects the teeth of his victims to add to or replace the teeth in his whip as needed (they are enchanted first to be more durable and bond with the other teeth etc.)

He does have a backup ranged weapon which he can use in a pinch, it's a normal longbow.

He also has a small buckler strapped to his back which he can pull out in an emergency (which rarely happens) or if he is being pelted with ranged attacks (this ups his AC to 20 base).

If you need him higher level, at fighter 8 (he is going fighter till 12 after getting rogue 5 at 10), he would take the Defensive duelist feat (can add proficiency to AC once per turn). . At fighter 12 he would take the toughness feat. He is going rogue for the last 3 levels (to rogue 8) after getting fighter 12. At rogue 8 (total level 20) he takes the Sentinal feat.

He gets defensive duelist at total level 13 (fighter 8/rogue 5). This lets him add his proficiency bonus (+4 at that point) to his AC. So without a shield (or better equipment by then) he would be able to boost his ac to 22 for 1 attack. He can also us uncanny dodge once per round by then as well.

At fighter 12 (level 17 total) he gets a 3rd natural attack per round.

He also has Action Surge and second wind, which he can use once per short rest.

With Alert (which he gets +5 to initiative) and 20 dex, he has a +10 to initative rolls. Assassin gives him advantage on any enemies with lower initative than him, and he auto gets his sneak attack on anyone he has advantage on.
Pretty much means he auto gets sneak attack on anyone slower then him, even fighting them by himself.

IF he sneaks up and surprises an enemy (and can do it from 10 feet away). He auto crits as well (doubling all damage dice including the sneak attack dice). He also has cunning action from rogue which lets him use the dash/disengage or hide abilities as a bonus action.

This opens him up to lots of sneaky/evil tactics. He can for instance.

Sneak up to an opponent (10 feet away) and suprise attack him. Then move 30 feat away (his normal movement) behind cover etc and bonus action hide...giving him a chance to sneak attack/surprise the opponent again when he comes into range.

Or he can sneak/suprise attack and then dash away (60 feat) and most enemies won't be able to move the 65 feet required to hit him with melee (and he could move behind a door etc so range attacks can't hit him, and then stealth the next turn.

He can also just full out action surge on his surprise attack, attempting to take an enemy down in 1 hit, and since he has such a high initiative, he will likely get the first attack in the next (first normal) attack round. This gives him enormous damage in a quick burst at the start of combat.

Because of his chain archtype, he gets atra 1d4 damage per attack as well, a crit range of 18-19 (even when he is not auto critting).

Ok, just know he needs at least 13 str/dex to dual class. You can use point buy if you need to. To make it work you need to drop human determination (he doesn't really need it) take alert at that level and instead of Alert at 8, you have to take another 2 dex, so take alert as your human varient.

That will give you +3 con though if you do it that way.

So point buy is base:

13 str
15 dex +1 human varient
15 con +1 human varient
10 int
10 wis
8 cha

Alert as the bonus feat

+2 dex to 18 at 4, +2 dex to 20 at 8

Probably better that way anyway tbh, the rolls were pretty bad when I did it.

That gives him +2 hp per level because of 16 con vs 13. Which by level 9 is 18 more hp (so instead of 67 ...his max would be 85. If you just take the average hp though that is 11 for level 1 and +8 per 8 levels after that ...75 total hp.

I just made him up btw, and he is a bit broken now that I look at it lol. His surprise attack from assassin auto crits, so all his attacks on a surprise attack will be doubled (that includes the 1d4 from chain mastery.

This is broken because he can auction surge so even at 9 that is 4 attacks from surprise, all getting double dice + double sneak attack dice, so even with only level 9 (2d6 instead of 3d6 sneak attack) he would get.

4d4 from base whip, 4d4 from chain mastery, 2d6 from sneak attack normally (all doubled).

So a total of 16d4 + 4d6 then his dex is +5 and his dueliest is +2 and his whip is +1 so that is +8 per hit..or +32 damage.

So the total damage of his first surprise attack is 16d4 +4d4 + 32 damage

I'll roll that really quick just for fun, but the average there is 40 +10 + 32 or 82 damage in the first hit with a good chance of getting to attack again before the opponent (with advantage AND 18-19 sneak attack range.

The random roll just did 72 damage.

In general on average he would kill any player near his level in the first surprise attack though, and with the additional attack round, he could kill players higher level them him before they got to attack back lol.

Btw the rolls I got (which sucked over all) were 13/16 (only good one)/12/12/10/8

I added +1 to dex (16 to 17) and to one of the 12's (cause you have to have a 13 str to dual). I figured I might add +1 con but didn't so I prob should have added it to the 13 for a 14 str, but oh well). The feat gave +1 to dex at level 1 making it 18 base, and level 4 he pumped it to 20, taking alert at 8.

Using point buy as shown above is significantly better and often DM's will let you use point buy as backup if your roll blows chunks.

The only real advantage to him though from point buy, or better rolls would be A: higher starting dex (giving him more options for starting free feat, and B: more Con, the rest isn't really going to matter to much (just better saves etc.

He needs max dex asap though, so starting with less than a 15 dex would blow. The basic requirements to make him work the way I set up is at least a 12 (before human varient bonus) strength, and a 15 (Before varient bonus) dex.

More con is nice, and at least a 12 would net you the same hp I have above (well if you roll lucky, 10 less if you just take the average).

Mostly low score proof though as going even with just a 13 base dex (and 12 base) would just mean an 18 dex vs a 20 (and you could boost it to 20 instead of taking sentinal eventually).

Check out Roll20. Being a dad with a full-time job, as well as most of my old D&D friends living very much the same life, I have no time for paper D&D meets any more. It's a mixed bag, especially going in blind and not knowing anyone, but Roll20 gives you a lot of options for finding games, and there's games happening all the time.

Name: Carlos Musheron
Race: was a custom plant/myconid race but firbolg or dwarf would work I think.
Class: Grave cleric OR Circle of Spores Druid would be closest.
Profession: Sage Background, and philosopher/historian for profession. Writer/poet would also work.
Weapon: If Cleric, use hammer, if Druid, use sickle, I guess.

Fyi, in my game Matango consists of 5 cursed humanoids turned into magic mushrooms with different specialties in a levitating UFO pot that are trying to reshape the world through fungal solidarity. They cannot use weapons and most armor and such on account of being mushrooms and they trigger wild magic. I roll a d6 to determine which one of them I'm controlling at any given time, with 6 allowing me to choose which one I use. Carlos is just one of the mushrooms altered to be a single unit for your convenience.

Yeah, 1d6 every time I choose to change the fighting mushroom, and percentile roll for wild magic when I cast a spell. It works out to make fewer rolls than melee fighters the further along a campaign goes, but early on it seems like a bit much.

My first campaign was in a party full of edgelords (I sat in on a session before joining the campaign properly) so I decided to try and make a really absurd character.

I promoted Karen the lib to level 3 and made her a berserker. Charisma is her highest stat so she can intimidate people easily

I have immediate plans for her, she is going to be a faction leader trying to overthrow the main empire because she is unhappy with the manager(emperor)

Depending on when she comes into play I might level her up again.
