There was an article about it here where several Swedes who had lived in the US for a shorter period of time in the past got those 1200 USD deposits and how the IRS now wants the money back.

What's the IRS gonna do? I'm pretty sure getting a judgement against those poor Swedes and then having an order to enforce it in a Swedish court and getting a Swedish bailiff is gonna end up costing a lot more than 1200 bucks per person
That is how I reason as well. Some said they would send the money back due to moral reasons while others said the IRS would have to take them to court

Well, that's well the fuck out of the jurisdiction so have fun with that IRS!!
Though it could make an individuals chance to get back in a bit dicey...if they would even want to.

Edit: Also this reminds me of how Canadians blatantly speed down the throughway, presumably to NYC. ~Which happens, all the time.
I assume, if they get pulled over for speeding, they just say fuck it, and don't pay the fine.

Depends. If we get a speeding ticket in Vermont it doesn't really matter. But if we get a speeding ticket in New York it's a different thing because Quebec and New York have an agreement to enforce each other's tickets. This means that I could have my Quebec license suspended because of tickets in New York. Not the case for Vermont. I suppose each canadian province has those kinds of deals with different states.

Whoa, that's fucked up. I didn't know that. Thank you. Odd because I see of ton of Quebec drives unabashedly speeding down the 'Northway' They are probably mainly business people who just pay the fine and get on with their lives. But I can't say I've ever seen one pulled over. Still that is an interesting agreement.

Vermont however, that's a whole other story.
Vermont isn't as crazy as New York, or most of America for that matter.
I've actually driven all day in Vermont and not even seen one cop car.

Alternatively, I have had car troubles, twice, in Vermont, and both times I had to turn away help, because someone was already helping.
ie: Going back to their barn to get me some fluid etc. Once coolant, one break fluid.

Ha that's awesome. I love Vermont. I used to cross the border into Vermont once a week to see my gf because she was studying there. I always loved the people there.

Ya, a totally different vib. Vermont completely lives up to the hype!
Wasn't somewhere in the Burlington area...I remember talking to someone here that came down from Canada to Vermont.
