I hated DS2, but Fallen Order and Code Vein are fun as fuck. Why can't we get more games like these?

Soulsborne=Dark Souls and Bloodborne, basically games like Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, Nioh, Sekiro, etc...

Soulsbornelite= Soulsborne games but easier, like Fallen Order, Code Vein, etc...

You mean those 2D Metroidvania/Souls games?
I haven't tried any of them yet, but doesn't really seem like my thing. Will definitely try one out in the future though.

You know that plodding slow pace where combat is a dance of attack-defend-attack?
It's more or less since every single game, it's not really a thing.

Why don't you just say Action/RPG? Is there something specific related to Soulsborne games you're looking for?

It's somewhat old but I recommend Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. The combat is very satisfying. The writing is great, with a lot of lore if you're into that. It's also great if you're a completionist, with all the collections and achievements. Like each area has a bunch of things to do or collect and give permanent bonuses once collected.

Yeah for real, it feels like every other game is trying to ape Dark Souls, or otherwise trys to take some of its mechanics.

Soulsbornelite games have the deliberate combat which makes it much more satisfying without the hair pulling frustrating bullshit that's in the Soulsborne games.

Not sure if I agree with this sentiment. Mainly because Sekiro is one of the best games I've played in years. The gameplay is top notch imo.

yeah? Ive had it for a while but havent gotten around to playing it yet

I kinda just dip my toe into souls type games usually since the difficulty can be somewhat intimidating

The difficulty isn't that much higher than the average game. It's just made to reward patience and knowledge over twitch reflexes and combos.

I wish there were even more soulslike games but I am pretty happy we get a fair few these days. I also wish they'd make some harder ones. Since they typically only have 1 difficulty it can eventually feel kind of easy since all the soulslike games are roughly the same difficulty. Once you have one down, it's not too hard to transfer that skillset to others in the genre.

I wasn't having any fun, and just being frustrated. Why the fuck would I keep playing a game where I was getting no enjoyment out of? I don't give a fuck if I need to "get it". If I'm more frustrated than anything, I'm not going to waste my time playing a videogame.

It's not that bad, it's still a great game, it's just more one pathed, rather than more open worlded than 1.. One nice thing about 2 is you get thrown a lot more souls in it so you have no trouble getting levels and wearing heavier armor and like using strength weapons plus some spells or bows, I liked that about it.

It's more multiplayer focused. Instead of the interweaving zones of DS1 like the Undead Burg - it is made up of shorter linear sprints. This isn't a bad thing, because it means replaying a section a dozen times with random people is more interesting - especially with invaders.

Yeah. It's also one of the most polished games From Software has made.

However, it's still just as difficult as other Souls games, and even tougher in some ways. Especially some of the bosses...

The hardest part of Sekiro is unlearning all the habits developed through Dark souls and Bloodborne. Because you can not play one like the other.

basically the combat can feel kind of stiff and frustrating, and they went a little overboard trying to kill you* rather than just giving you a dangerous world to explore. but it's not as bad as it can seem, it has by far the most character flexibility of any of the games, and (most of) the DLC areas are excellent.

(* particularly early on there are a few ambush places where it's not just the ambush that gets you, the enemies actually have "infinite" stamina. it's pretty hard to survive them even when you know they're there and are prepared for them.)
