Been waiting forever, and I will probably be playing it a freakton. I usually play solo in games, but I'm down to make friends and party some in PSO. I am pretty sure you end up partying anyway most of the time, so it might as well be with friends!!

I'm game. Dunno if I'll be playing it enough to keep up, but this is one I've been very much waiting for. What's the monetization model like? I'm seeing it's free with IAP's on Xbone, plus you need a Gold subscription to play it online. What's the PC version going to look like in that regard?

It sounds like it's totally free for PC but we don't know for sure yet. Worst case you gotta pay for the 10$ gamepass a month....which I'll be fine with.

Once it launches I'll post my id name here so we can all meet up.

Not sure what I'm gonna play yet, I think you actually get to have 2 classes now, a main and a sub.....which will be pretty cool.

Because it's Microsoft I will not be able to purchase in-game items through Steam
Microsoft is literally the worst platform for everything imaginable.

I mean, you knew setting up your current operating system that it was going to result in compatibility issues with games (since anything other than Windows inevitably does), and if the worst complaint you have beyond that is that you have to buy stuff through a store that isn't Steam, I don't think you really have that much to complain about. It'd be nice if it came to Steam instead, obviously, but given that Microsoft is doing the publishing themselves, I understand why it isn't.

The problem is some special snowflake games by developers who use proprietary anti-cheat/drm systems. If you look at the 11 Broken games in the top 100 you'll find a pattern.

Sure, it could be made compatible, but it's really not reasonable to expect publishers to do things differently from how they want to just so such a tiny subset of potential players can play the game.

Proprietary DRM is the reason I will never use a Microsoft product again. It's purposeful ignorance to make a game only work on one platform. It's like the chaotic evil of distribution methods.

pro tip: you can buy most 12 star rares from the shop.

i loved pso but pso2's economy is broken. you have access to purchase 12 star rares and all the high level tech disks via personal player shops.

The whole point in pso1 is to find the things yourself since, well, that's the staying power of the game.

If you could just buy the items there'd be no hunt of treasure

Not really. Compatibility testing takes resources, as does solving any compatibility issues that such testing finds, and publishing a game only on your platform means you don't have to pay a cut of sales to the owners of other platforms. The extra work might be worthwhile from a pure dollar standpoint, but where this is a low-profile porting job that I'm guessing Microsoft isn't expecting to make much money from, I'm not surprised they don't want to dedicate the manpower to it.

there's a subscription service, you can purchase more inventory slots and storage, and you can use money to roll the gacha (which is almost entirely fashion)

the only thing i'd say is almost a required buy is 50 more inventory slots eventually, which is around ten bucks during sales. the subscription's main draws are mitigated in necessity these days; you can sell to other players via a pass that's not terribly hard to get from a free currency gacha that's farmable, and priority block access doesn't matter as much as it used to before multi-block matching. if you want to do EVERYTHING on one character, another ten bucks will let you get a mag for all attack types

for the most part, people spend money in this game on cosmetics.... or to sell those cosmetics to make ludicrous amounts of money. almost all cosmetics are tradable in this game

you can get by as a casual without spending money very easily, and the game is ultra casual friendly

Nifty. Playing for free except for spending some money expanding my stash after playing for a good long while is exactly how I played PoE, and I was quite happy with how well that went. Good to know.

Did you play the original? I the combat as fun as that?

Can you fight the bosses solo, or do you have to party up, and are they skill based like the original, or just spam buttons?

I loved the original, the combat was skill based and the boss fights were actually hard. It was a very fun action RPG semi MMO ish game. I'm so hoping I like this as well and it lasts along time.

The combat is way better than previous games IMO and skill plays a large factor. Some of the bosses really are quite tough. IIRC you can handle most bosses solo but some of the emergency quest bosses would be a little absurd that way although I'm sure someone still does it.

the combat is like one of the previous games upgraded (nova?) but if all you've played is ep1&2/blue burst etc then you're in for an entirely different genre, it's pretty much anime monster hunter

you can solo every boss comfortably if you lower the difficulty by 1, basically. nothing (except base defense emergency quests) requires multiple people (and even then if you're crazy you can do it). hell if you're super good you can solo on the highest difficulty too. it's not usual for 1-2 people in a 12 man party do over half the damage. skill caps of some classes are pretty high

game is probably about halfway through its lifespan but as long as it performs well it'll stay up. and it's basically been a pretty big infusion of cash for sega. main limiting thing now is the engine it plays on, probably

Is it only in the Windows 10 store? I should probably have figured this out before today, but I'm realizing the microsoft store website only has the Xbone download available and I maybe need to stop putting off the upgrade to 10 on my desktop. Looking at system requirements for the game, it looks like Windows 7 is the minimum, but presumably that's based on the Japanese version and doesn't take current NA distribution into account.

Just a warning it's download is mega slow because everyone is trying to download it. I downloaded the original 11g file last night, but didn't know it had a large update after that, so started at 4am, but it keeps getting slower and still says 2 hours + till it finishes (which is what it said at 4 am lolz).

Frustrating but, if you plan for it in advance you might be able to get it all set up tonight and ready to plly tomorrow.

Yeah, the entire game is like 50-60gb in JP... 10~GB is way too small lmao. In JP we usually kept a reasonably updated archive of the files torrented so people could download the vast majority of it that way, but microsoft is not a fan of user friendliness.

Yeah, I'm buying a SSD specifically so I can upgrade my OS from 7 to 10 (so I don't have to format my full hard drives) for this shit. It's obnoxious. Been complaining about the possibility of this for months because I knew it'd be like this.

The game was released like two years into windows 7's lifespan and they never touch the engine of the game anymore, there's actually zero reason to require windows 10 outside of microsoft being microsoft. And surprise, there's a shitton of reports that downloads from the windows store are just randomly breaking and leaving a ghost 60gb inside system files you have to go manually digging for.

I downloaded it this morning. Tried to launch it, and windows threw a system error. o_O apparently my SSD has corrupted sectors or something... But I installed it to the D drive... uh I hope this is something I can fix without having to reinstall my OS...

I'm still just trying to redownload the operatton progress stuff that is supposed to take 2 minutes (at the start of the download). It's been 18 so far, and it's only on part 1 of 2.

Not looking good for me getting this downloaded today, and then at least from what I read there are a ton of errors you can get which means you have to redownload the whole thing.

Yeah hopefully that only actually takes you 50 minutes. Mine said 2 minutes to download the operation files over an hour ago (After it crashed) and it's still not done. It says 7 minutes remaining now lol. Maybe i'll get lucky and the files it downloaded before will still be there, but I still doubt I'll get in tonight.
