Do... do you think they just sent you things from 3rd party sources without direct instruction to do so from those sources? Do you remotely think that if there was a private postal service you wouldnt receive the exact same type of garbage?

According to the above its apparently cost prohibitive for it to be worth it to send me junk mail. Checkmate nerd

Junk mail is an advertisement that a business paid to have delivered to you. Everyone has the right to send mail. Including businesses.
some random joe blow down the street could hypothetically start sending you junk mail everyday

should be shut down to stop draining taxpayer resources
Which is ironic, since it isn't taxpayer funded. It functions in a truly bizarre realm, in that it functions like a private business in almost every aspect, save for profits not being the end goal or point. The point being that is has to serve mail, to every American, at a standard rate. Ironically, it being taxpayer funded would solve a lot of it's problems, since making an entity that is literally required by Congress for the common good to try and act like a business is inane.

Most people forget that the USPS is REQUIRED to exist (it's debatable if Congress could actual abolish it or not, despite them only being "empowered" to make a National Post Service).

The rise of the 24-hour news cycle and the polarizing effect of biased political pundits probably play a role as well, as US politics have effectively become the Console War of the modern generation, as everybody picks a side and then just attacks anyone who dares to have a different opinion.
This is what really set the pace for today. Vietnam may have disillusioned the people against the Government, but Newt Gingrich leading the way on treating the opposition like an enemy and the idea that news couldn't just be news, but needed a slant (the birth of Fox) really started the era of tribalism. Most political customs started to break down, and the idea grew that it was OK to attack and dehumanize someone of political opposition during this time.

The companies get a lower rate from the post office for sending in such a large bulk.
They'd likely get a big price break from UPS and FedEx as well is USPS went away. Hell, considering how much mail delivery is at stake, they might even compete w/ each other to offer the bulk mailers the better discount in return for exclusively using their service instead of the others'.

So don't worry, it'd still work out just fine for the junk mail spammers.
It's just the ordinary folks and small businesses that would suffer.

Completely and utterly missed the point, but cool.

You missed the point to begin with. If a government organization is accepting what ultimately amount to bribes, then they don't deserve to exist. That means, at that point, they now have a bias which, in theory, a government funded organization should not have. Not only do they receive the cash flow from allowing their bullshit junkmail to get to my mailbox, but they have the government backing that literally prevents them from failing. So even if I wanted to 'take my business elsewhere' it wouldn't matter. They're still going to be getting my dollar. Either through junk mail or from my taxes if the junk mail were to run dry.

To make matters worse, when I throw that junk mail away, guess who has to take care of it? Also the government. We're spending some 550 million a year across the country just getting rid of that bullshit. You would think this would be part of Cortez' green new deal to try and get rid of this trash and stop fucking up 100s of millions of trees and generating millions of pounds of trash.

Ultimately, I can more easily vote with my dollar than I can vote for a revision to the post office. The postmaster general is pretty much the last on the list of anyone's list when they vote so that aint happening. And when it comes down to it, I've never had an experience with the post office where I've thought, "Boy they really went the extra mile".

Fuck em. The post office is dumb.

Might as well fold the entire concept of governments, then.

Either way, much like Trump is not a pariah of the GOP, but rather Frankenstein's monster, Trump going after the USPS is just him trying to finish what the GOP as a whole started. Well, maybe- Trump seems to pick new targets at random everyday for his ire, and rarely follows through with said threats.
Trump is mad at Jeff Bezos because Bezos owns the Washington Post which said mean things about him. Killing the Post Office will hurt Amazon which will hurt Jeff Bezos.

Seriously, that's it.

Trump wants to privatize the USPS and that's nothing new because the GOP has been wanting to privatize certain government entities for a long time now. Their favorites among many are the USPS and Fema. If and when it happens, stamps would go sky high then they'll add on fees and surcharges etc. By the time it's said and done mailing a letter will cost $7 bucks but hey a certain faction in this country keep voting for this so kee[ voting against your own interests.

The problem is that what Trump's doing will only HELP Bezos instead of hurting him since all of these small businesses depend on USPS to deliver stuff for them. Amazon has already started up a delivery service for their goods to compete with USPS, FedEx and UPS; so all defunding USPS will do is reward Bezos, UPS and Fed Ex with extra business at inflated rates that small businesses will be forced to pay or go out of business.
