do you like these shit disney remakes?

i watched the jungle book a few years ago, and just assumed all of them were just as good. then i watched a bunch of the more recent ones with my daughter while we've been stuck inside for so long, ok?

so far we watched dumbo, aladdin, beauty and the beast, and the lion king. they're all pretty awful, except beauty and the beast which was exceedingly mediocre, ok?

what do you think of these shit movies?

Generally I like them. Sure the originals are the best but these are a nice way to update the originals for a new audience. I suppose it helps I watch them with my Niece and Nephew though who enjoy both the originals and remakes.

The biggest problem with the live-action remakes is expression.

When they were remaking the movies, they got too caught up in the idea that live-action has to equal realism, despite the ridiculously unrealistic setting and characters involved.

Take Lion King as an example. With the freedom of animation, they can exaggerate expressions of the characters and it makes for something that is more fun to watch. Where as with the live-action movies, they only are focused on making the animals look like real animals. They could have given them exaggerated expressions but they didnt, and as a result the animals look more like unenthusiastic mouth pieces with emotional human voices coming out of them..

it didnt fit with the film at all and was just some generic pop song

Same. I thought will smith did it justice and the soundtrack was good. It stands in its own as a good movie even if you dont care for the original.

Beauty and the beast was also decent in being modern and staying true to the source material IMO.

I don't think a single one is considered better than their animation counterpart, but most people seem care more about "live action" than animations so it makes the money roll in with low risk.

Wholeheartedly agree about Jafar. Guy was over-serious in the role. No levity. 100% brooding anger, which doesn't fit the character at all.

But I tried to go into this movie as open-minded as I could with regards to Will Smith, because he had such enormous shoes to fill. Figured he'd miss the mark completely, or try too hard to mimic Williams portrayal and fail miserably. But I was pleasantly surprised. I feel he paid tribute to Robin's performance, but made the genie his own, Definitely had that "Will Smith vibe". I'm not going to knock him for not being better than Robin Williams, because it's such a big ask in the first place, and you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who could meet that lofty goal. He delivered on the genie in my eyes.

The thing is the animated ones are already done. They will always be there. I never understood folk who are like "hurr durr remakes/sequels ruin the original" when the original is always going to be a thing.

Still because I've nothing better todo I'll rank the Disney live action films I've seen:

  1. Beauty and the Beast
  2. Aladdin
  3. Alice in Wonderland
  4. The Jungle Book (2016)
  5. The Lion King
  6. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
  7. Maleficent
  8. Alice Through the Looking Glass
  9. Christopher Robin
  10. 101 Dalmatians
  11. Cinderella
  12. Lady and the Tramp
  13. Dumbo
Sure some of these are actually originals but still.

Agreed. Christopher Robin is great, if you count that, but the rest definitely range from midling to awful. I think I've seen most of them, not sure which I haven't, maybe just the recent Maleficent one and Jungle Book. (oh and looking up apparently they made a Lady and the Tramp also?)

They seem hit-or-miss. I really enjoyed the live-action Aladdin and the different approach with Maleficent but overall I would not say they are better than the original animated movies nor horrific either.

I might appreciate a live-action Treasure Planet or Atlantis: The Lost Empire but given Disney's records with these remakes, I am not sure if I do want these done. Even with the upcoming Mulan remake, it feels more like a traditional Chinese drama movie than a Disney retelling of the original peom.
