I've only played Dark Souls a few minutes but I wasn't into it. Looking forward to trying Xenoblade soon though and would like to try Persona 5 one day too.

Mass Effect 2 is where it's at

Mass Effect 2 is amazing. Persona 5 is also pretty damn great and so is Dark Souls, but those two games definitely aren't for everyone. Dark Souls in particular is extremely rough around the edges compared to more modern games that were inspired by it.

And then there's Xenoblade Chronicles which I probably played for about 10 hours before finally admitting to myself that it was boring as shit.

Only one I've played is Xenoblade, so...not that. Xenoblade is one of the few games where I recommend going the LMS route and just watching a Let's Play; I've heard great things about the story and it seemed like it was worth the praise from as far as I got, but the combat system was just so horrendous that I couldn't get terribly far into it.

I guess I'll say Persona 5, though, since I've played other SMT games and they've never disappointed me. If P5 came to the Switch, I'd be all over it.

I urge you not to judge Dark Souls based on its first few minutes. It has an amazing interconnected game world that makes use of vertical space in a way most 3D games ignore. It's kind of like a Metroid game in game world flow, without the "unlock equipment to proceed" factor (most of the time). In fact I would go so far as to say it's more Metroid-like than some of the Metroid Prime games (I'm not sure if 3 uses vertical space as much as Dark Souls, but 1 and 2 definitely don't).

I like to compare its combat to Mega Man, since the "recognize patterns, and adapt to them" factor is what it's all about most of the time.

My two early barriers to getting more into DS were its general tone that made me uncomfortably tense and its menus where I can still be attacked during them. Maybe another day.
