How do you react when someone teases you for your physical appearance?

For the sake of this poll, let's assume this is a person you don't know. Or barely know. Someone who is NOT a friend or a family member. This is someone who has no relationship with you whatsoever, so they have absolutely no ground to walk on, and no justification for the insult as "I was only kidding" etc. There's no reason this person should "just be kidding" with you. They don't know you. You don't know them.

This might be a person you see at a bar. Or a party. Maybe they are a friend of a friend. A total stranger to you. A waiter at a restaurant. A cashier at a gas station.

Upon interacting with you....before any formalities or "hellos" have taken place, they skip straight into insulting you. Pointing out a physical flaw you have. A quick little jab out of nowhere.

A comment about your weight. Your height. Your nose. Your hairline. Your skin. The car you drive. Your ears. The shoes you are wearing. The way you are holding your drink in your hand. Something. Anything.

I know this poll is kinda stupid, and I know it's extremely vague....as no specific insult is given. I also know that such things don't happen very often. 99% of people are nice and non-confrontational.

But over the course of my life....it has happened. Many times. And I've seen it happen to others...many times. And it's a fascinating phenomenon. And it's so weird when trying to process how to react while still maintaining your pride, your dignity, your sanity....and maybe not escalating the situation.

And then a lot of people try to say "You just gotta have thick skin!"

But I also think the people who say such things.....just havent been properly insulted yet. LOL

Offensive (according to GameFaqs): sexually explicit, gory, or other obscene content.
Different opinions are not offensive unless they contain these elements.

Like many others, I understand that the compulsion to tease comes from personal insecurity within the relevant subject. That being the case, I think you have enough problems to worry about without me laying into you for your childish and insecure behavior. Have a good day, you sound like you could use one.

I get confused and show it in my facial expression then brush it off. I'm blessed with general inoffensiveness, there's no extreme to pick at so any attack has no grounds.

If it's someone I don't know, the general reaction would be "Hey, go fuck yourself." Possibly with a middle finger. And then I would go back to not caring about their opinions or their existence as a person.

I barely internalize criticism or insults from people I do know and respect. The only things that really bother me are the criticisms or regrets I've made for myself, which I occasionally dwell on.

It helps to be a misanthrope - when you're already convinced that most of humanity are just walking bags of sewage, it makes it easy to not care what other people think.

I never cared what others think and I'm also incredibly difficult to upset. Years of gaming has given me an infinite patience stat. So to answer the Q it would either be 'ignore' or I'd have some fun with it.

Depends.

If I feel it was a joke, we laugh and I make fun of them back.

If I feel it was an insult, I insult them right back.

If they are worth noticing at all, a shrug and a smile. If I have a good audience worth a one-liner, "yeah, everyone thought Snake Plissken was taller, too", "must have been the whiskey that did it", "you should have seen me before the (something) wore me down", etc.

I don't care. I am quite confident in my physical appearance. There's nothing much for you to attack that wouldn't just make you look racist or childish.
