What is Game of the Month Club?
Game of the Month is a community project open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a select few games every month. The games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck)

The Basics
- Each month will usually feature three games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each game you beat, you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's games is usually around a week before the end of the month
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules
- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You receive additional nominations each month for every chosen game that you beat
- Each game you nominate has to be unique from all other nominations and cannot include a game that has already been selected for GotM
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a chosen game after the drawing for next month's games but before the end of the month

Started up Moonlighter earlier today, though just finished one floor so far.

A note about Gato Roboto since I finished it a few months ago. If you care about getting 100% you'll need to do it before going past the point of no return. It clearly warns you beforehand, but I went past it thinking I just could avoid saving at the save points and go back to the last one if I chose to reload it. Nope, it autosaved past the point of no return anyway so I couldn't. And after beating the game, you can't do anything else meaningful on that save file not even going back to fight the final boss again.

I didn't really try to see if you could get around it by copying save files (if you're able to), since it was too late. *shrug*

I went through the entirety of Origins in ONRUSH late in the morning, and I had enough of a blast that I went ahead and bought the PS4 version too since it was only $2.50. There's nothing like a great racing game I tell you.

I will say that while I never had to repeat events and was named MVP in all of them (I am assuming it is a low bar to be named it in the first chapter though), I felt like I was struggling a little bit in the Countdown events. Maybe I should focus less on making it through those checkpoints and rely on my team a little more because I wasn't being aggressive and got knocked out a bunch.

yeah that's one of the bad things about super metroid (especially since it doesn't actually warn you like this game at least does), but at least in super metroid you can still go back as long as you don't save at the last save point.

I do not. I really dont care for the aesthetic, with rooms and personal icons and a lobby feel. And giving out al those awards to ais at the end like the game wishes it was multiplayer.

tbh I havent played them in quite a few generations other than kart racers. Think I last played a grab turismo game on ps2. I was hoping it would be more like destruction derby for the ps1.

The last event in the game is called the Founder's Cup. If you beat that, I would say you beat the game.

I figured out the one I liked, the Titan. Thats my favorite hands down.

Also I like the game a lot better with the sound off. Oh god Ive become my mother.

ArkOfTurus has beaten Gato Roboto

100% at a little under 3 hours. First couple areas were a decent, if unspectacular start to a Metroid clone (although the damage sponge shmup boss wasn't great.) The spin jump made the third area more fun, and I got pretty excited by the potential of the phase ability. Unfortunately, the game decided it wanted to be a precision platformer for the fourth. The suitless controls never felt good enough to justify the one hit kills, and I kind of hated the whole area. The last area was more like what I was hoping for, but it was a bit short, and trivially easy at 100%. Decent enough game, but I probably won't be playing it again.

I'm up to Snowbound in ONRUSH. After going through 80% or so through the game, I think that I prefer the increased handling of the lower vehicle classes over the power of the higher classes. Vortex and Outlaw might be my favorite vehicles now.

I'm about 20% through Gato Roboto. This game is a little more challenging than I expected. I was aggressively careless in the first fight to where I died twice. Since then, I have only died when outside of a vehicle since it is a one-hit death as a cat. I wish there was an incentive for attacking enemies. I ignore them the best that I can as a result.

I've been playing through Moonlighter on the Switch. Hit a few bugs that made me lose some progress much to my annoyance, but I managed to complete the first dungeon.

I don't mind the gameplay loop, but I think the constant grinding for loot to craft better weapons and armor may get boring after a while.

I got 100% and Beat Gato Roboto. I was around 5 and a half hours when I finished. I enjoyed it quite a bit, a lot of Metroid, some Mega Man and even a bit of blaster master feel when you have to leave the suit and run around as a kitty. Very cute game, leaves me wanting a sequel though..

It's funny, I think the way you play in Onrush is actually kind of like how you do it in Mario Kart. I tend to love maining Bowser or another heavyweight, and the Titan was by far my favorite vehicle.

Played a few hours of Moonlighter. Enjoying it so far, although I think my progress will be pretty slow (still only up to the third floor of the first dungeon.)

I'm curious how this compares to Recettear. Haven't really played that much, but it seems to be pretty much the same thing? I appreciate not being on a timer in this one, though.

KCF has beaten ONRUSH

My only complaint was that there should have been fewer tournament/multi-events in the campaign. While I consider myself to be a great racer, there are a few event-related challenges (I forget if they have an official name or not) I think might prevent me from ever fully completing the game.

Switch > Overdrive > Countdown > Lockdown (I once had a Lockdown match where we went two full "laps" before a single zone was captured)

Charger > Enforcer > Outlaw > Dynamo > Blade > Vortex > Titan > Interceptor

TBH i'm not certain about that myself. I woudn't make a case for it, but I haven't tried it yet. Perhaps you could make a bonus category for "Fun endless game we can all play for fun and talk about" that isn't related to the standings, but just for conversation in the topic.

I'm completely unfamiliar with it. Is it something you can get 100% trophies or achievements on? Sometimes I use that as a metric for considering a game "beaten" if it doesn't have a traditional ending. I figure if I did all the things the developers wanted me to do for their special little quests it is essentially beaten.

I understand not everyone uses that metric (and I have absolutely no interest in playing Pac-Man if it does win) so I have no problem if you exclude it but that is how I normally do it.

I don't think I'll be beating any of these games this month. Not sure if I get a regular nomination or not but I'm going to opt out either way because I'm already getting to select one game guaranteed next month.

I am roughly 60% done with Gato Roboto. I'm now in some area where I have to be just the cat. If the only requirements to getting 100% are map coverage, cartridges, and health extensions, I might go for it, though someone here said I have to do it before beating the game.

Playing Moonlighter for the first time in a year, I haven't made much progress. I have been able to get to the second Golem Whatever dungeon, but I've been escaping sometime during that as my backpack keeps getting full. I'm not seeing anything in the shops or from signs around town that suggest I can increase my backpack size, so I guess I will now have to start micromanaging my inventory space during dungeon runs. I have also upgraded my helmet to the next version, and I bought the base spear and bow. I have no interest in the big, slow sword nor the super short range of the glove, so I'm going to experiment between sword and shield, spear, and bow to see which combo I want to focus on upgrading for the rest of the game.

I started and finished Gato Roboto on Xbox One today. It's a fun Metroid-style game and also fairly easy to 100% in a short amount of time. I've been meaning to play it since it came out, so I'm glad I finally got around to it. @KCF0107 - The game tells you when you reach the point of no return, but if you just check the map and have explored each one completely, you'll find everything just fine.

I got Moonlighter on Steam last year and hadn't played it yet, so I'm thinking of jumping into that next.

I think this is my first appearance in the club since Stealth Inc 2 haha.

I finished with 100% in 2:54:20. I had to use a guide for one final health kit because I totally forgot that there was that frog who would give you additional abilities for cartridges. That was certainly a weird way to end the game too.

I enjoy playing Metroid-like games (I think Metroidvania would be a misnomer in this case), so even though this was ultimately nothing special, my opinion of it exceeds to sum of its parts. I messed around with all of the color palettes, and so many hurt my eyes or just made things more difficult to see or discern. Once I unlocked Coffee Stain, it was the one I used for the remainder of the game.

Gameking has beaten Moonlighter.

I really was not feeling this game too much, but once I got the hang of the gameplay loop and upgraded the shop after the second dungeon, it clicked with me. I mainly used the spear and the bow. The difficulty is definitely predicated on the weapons and equipment you have, which made it too easy at times. I was at a good level for the third boss in the game and had a lot more fun with it than the others that ended up feeling more button mashy. It sounds like I'm complaining, but I did have a good time with it overall.

I apparently got Onrush from PS+ at some point, so I'll play through that next.

My first two noms will go to Final Fantasy XII and Iconoclasts. I'll also throw a vote to Crash Bandicoot: Warped.
