I don't get it either. my sister really liked the first one, but to me it seems like there's almost nothing to do. I could play almost any other game and have more to do and have a more rewarding experience.

I mean I love The Sims so I can understand the appeal. I've never played Animal Crossing though.

The graphics are charming, there's a bunch of stuff to collect, the house/island design systems allow for a lot of creativity, and most importantly, it's relaxing in a way that can be rare with triple a games.

P.S: New Horizons is great, but I don't think it'll top New Leaf. Gotta' admit though I love being able to put stuff outside now. That's huge.

It's really not that deep. It's currently fun for thousands of people, but if it doesn't look like a fun game for you, that's okay. If you've watched trailers and gameplay and still don't want to try it, that's okay.

What are you calling the serious answer?

I've seen some people, specifically in relation to Animal Crossing, ask to be "convinced" or "sold on" the game. I get wanting to see where the hype is coming from, but there's nothing wrong with not getting it. Not all games are made for all people.

I've never been into JRPGs but I don't ask people to convince me to try them out--I just accept that they don't interest me.

It's fun for creative people. It's only a chore if you're rushing to beat an unbeatable game.

Pretty much. If you want to design a town and decorate a house and have a bunch of talking animals give mildly amusing commentary on the mundane tasks you perform, it's great. If that's not your thing, then Animal Crossing won't be your thing.

It's just a really chill time, and I can honestly get absorbed in it for hours terraforming and building houses and fences and organizing. It's just a nice way to destress, especially these days with the world falling apart.

Mostly because I love gardening .

Shopping is also one of the factors I just love the game .

I also like games like animal crossing because it just doesn't have an end . You can play it forever .

Being in charge of a town or island also feels pretty good ,this being one of the more selfish reasons tbh ^_^

That too. I really like how they've designed the museum this time around. So much of the collection aspect of the game boils down to dumb luck, but it's still fun to work toward completing it and displaying all the stuff I've found.

I am really hoping that they add more fish/bugs/fossils in a future update, even paintings wouldnt be bad either.

I think what it might be is that the game is hugely cosmetic rather than functional. and some people do like things that are cosmetic, whereas some couldn't care less about that kind of thing. (as far as I know this is associated with S vs N myers briggs personality types; S types tend to like cosmetic things, N types tend to not care about them).

you guys are talking about "building the town", which almost sounds interesting, but I have a feeling that the town is not really all that functional, and "building" it is more or less only about making it look how you want it to look, not making it run better or worse.

for example, in contrast, planting your garden in Harvest Moon is maybe a little cosmetic (you build it to look the way you want it to look) but a lot functional (you have to be able to reach the plants, water them effectively, plant things that are in season, plant things that will grow in time, etc.)

I mean, at a max of 1 painting per week, finishing that collection will take a while. I'm okay with what they've got at the moment. Expanding the others might be nice, though. Probably not until we're at least a year in so everyone has (legitimately) had a shot at catching all the current ones, though.

I always test as either INTP or INFP oddly enough depending on the test, and I like both.

assuming what I've said is right, which it isn't necessarily, note that the myers briggs properties are not black and white, they are spectrums (spectra). you can have one of them be excessive, or you can have one of them somewhere in between.

(I don't even really know what the game is actually like, this is just a guess that I'm interested in people commenting on. it sounds plausible to me but who knows.)

I see. I didn't ask the question to later disagree with your post or something. I just wanted to ask for fun to see what would myers-briggs test say :)

I personally wouldn't have a firm opinion on a study like that , so I couldn't even comment on it .

I am a strong N and could not care less about cosmetics in games. Art direction and music sure...but not changing them around.

The real Animal Crossing is the friends we made along the way.

They need more fossils. Giving you 4 a day was way too many. I shouldn't have finished getting all the fossils in less than 2 months of game time.

There is room to add another room to it also, in the back of the 3rd (Ice Age Room) there is a set of doors they could easily turn it into another room.

Also I want to see a mineral/geology wing
