Board 8 > Finally got FF7R delivered. Installing now. My question is: Classic or Normal?

I played both on the demo and to be honest didn't notice much difference in styles. I want to go with Classic because apparently its more tactical (although i didn't notice this in the demo), also it will be easier so I can enjoy the story part, and then try Normal on a second run through.

Or should I man up and just go with Normal?

If you want easier then just pick Easy instead of Normal. I wouldn't recommend Classic because Normal is plenty tactical enough.

Yeah, you don't have to worry about the normal gameplay not being tactical enough, especially on harder fights. Swapping between characters and micromanaging the ATB is the way to go. Just go with Easy if it's too hard.

from what i've heard, "easy" pretty much removes any tactical considerations from battles because of how much weaker the enemies are, and classic mode sets the difficulty to easy.

normal is plenty tactical! as long as you take the time to learn how the combat works, normal presents the right amount of challenge that is satisfying to overcome.

you also have the option to change difficulty any time, so if you end up not enjoying the combat and just wanna see the story unfold, you can bump it down to easy or classic.

so i recommend starting with normal and see how you like it! for what it's worth, i think this combat system is the best one i've ever experienced in a jrpg, and it gets even more rewarding on hard mode!

I did Easy and then now am doing Hard.

Easy was a joke, almost nothing was a challenge.

Hard is brutal sometimes.

From what I understand Classic just gives the AI more control and essentially just slows ATB charge. Play on normal. I'm early in the game, some of the fights have been a little long but difficulty has gone down considerably. I'm only on like chapter 5, difficulty peaked so far at...chapter 1 and its been downhill from there.

I went with Normal which was definitely the best option. Haven't died yet but damn the battles are challenging and fun (aka frustrating as ****)

Normal seems pretty hard but I think you'd be missing out by not starting on it.

I think the battles can be tough but learning how to effectively rotate between characters is fun.

Yeah that was the big problem, I look at how much more effective I was in the end-game and I think to the early battles when I was like, barely rotating characters, barely using ATB charges, not targeting appendages in boss fights... but also not restarting battles to equip the right elemental materia for that mission or boss. Looking forward to restarting the game in hard mode now that I got the battle system down.
