Yes, I'd see reference to it while reading and watching stuff about World War 1 but it was probably only in the last 5 or so years that I'd read any significant amount about it specifically.

Yes of course, we learned about it in school.

whats your point? Are you expecting people here to not know about it, and you want to say that people in 100 years wont remember Covid-19 either? Because thats a horrible argument

Yes, besides grade 7-12 history classes my dad was a big military history buff having served the entire Second WW under Patton. I spent my childhood learning more outside school with my dad (history and Natural Sciences). We watched a lot of historical documentaries together. My dad died July 13, 2001 so he missed 911 and this mess we're in now for which I'm glad. Either one would have hurt him a lot because he couldn't help out.

Sadly he also missed his beloved New England Patriots win their first Super Bowl. We had a really fun friendly rivalry between his Pats and my Miami Dolphins. All the crazy shit that happened that season convinced my mom and I his ghost was down there on the field helping them win lol. God how I miss that man.

Of course. My grandad was ten in 1918, he told me about it when I was a kid (he died about 25 years ago). It really wasn't that long ago in real terms; there are still people alive who remember it, albeit very few now.

I usually heard it referred to more as "Spanish Influenza", but yeah, I'd generally assume it was common knowledge for anyone who wasn't a complete idiot.

It's like saying "Hey, had you ever heard of the Black Plague before?"

Then again, I assume that schools today are completely inept and don't actually teach anything, and just give gold stars to everyone who manages to show up, so I suppose it's entirely possible that no one under the age of 25 or so has ever heard of it.

I remember hearing about this flu that killed more people than the entirety of World War I, and the Woodrow Wilson was sick with it while in the negotiations for the armistice/treaty in Paris.

Didn't know the name of it until just this recently.

Yeah these things usually get a footnote in the chapter. The black plague might have got something like a section of a chapter. Really history books or at least the ones ive had exposure to do a terrible job of relating events with their impact unless its something hugely relevant like the magna carta or the industrial revolution that they want you to have standardized knowledge on.

The history channel was a life saver back then for contextualizing all this and making it somewhat interesting. Otherwise the time line would have been a blur of who or what King Louis XVII.r02 was doing within the 500 years that there was a bunch of Louis bots.
