Fellini's 8.
It's not trash, not from a technical standpoint anyhow, but it's by far the most boring movie I've ever seen. When the main character isn't having problems with directing his movie, he has problems with romance, neither of which regarded as interesting, thrilling, or even comedic. He also frequently relives his childhood in his mind or fantasizes about women, but these are mostly inconsequential cinematic nonsequiturs that feel like they belong in another movie. The movie's painfully lacking in drama, excitment, comedy, and suspense, and I can only wish to understand what makes it so acclaimed. --- Sigs are rather pointless, except if it's to showcase animation and images. ... Most popular 60s and 70s American movies with liberal themes, especially racial ones, annoy the hell out of me. In the Heat of the Night, To Kill a Mockingbird, anything by Stanley Kramer. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but they strike a lot of false notes with me. Stanley Kramer's films particularly have this self-congratulatory note that I find very irksome. The handful of explicitly politically liberal themed films I can think of from earlier decades, like Intruder in the Dust, The Ox-bow Incident, The Grapes of Wrath, Stars in my Crown and even a lot of Frank Capra films just don't get under my skin nearly as much. They're better made, for one thing, and they seem all in all less phony. Frank Capra was a very conservative person, of course, and there's always been a very troubled edge to his work I find much more interesting then the sanctimonious nature of a Stanley Kramer film.
I also really don't like Saving Private Ryan. I don't know why. I just hate it. If it were a politician, I would have Saving Private Ryan Derangement Syndrome, but it would be a real thing. --- don't flush the cob ... Copied to Clipboard!
