I was playing Blue (Birds) and had drew the Domination card that let me win with 3 Fox clearings. Well I had 3 of those and I was at 10, but he GM said I couldnt play it. I had to discard it first, then pick it back up, and the play it on my third (now) turn with it.
is that how it works or did we do something wrong? We kept reading the rules and even looked online, but we were still confused. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I haven't played Root, but I play a lot of board games, and there's a few enthusiasts here. @Medussa or @MedeaLysistrata may be one of them, but I might be mistaken.

I've only played it twice, and am by no means an expert, but my understanding of the rules is that you can play a domination card from your hand. It's only if you discard it to use its suit that it becomes available for people to pick up.

have you tried asking on Board Game Geek? I just looked at the game's forum, and it seems decently active.

I personally wouldn't take them out - they add another layer of strategy where you need to have a think about which clearings would be too dangerous for an enemy to possess. Since the player with dominion only wins on the beginning of their next turn, it makes everyone team up against them and if they can't hold their position, they're screwed for the rest of the game. It's much harder for the birds to win, so it's also a good way to counter balance that. Consider it kind of a final stand of a lower scoring player in late game.

It's because we sat there for over an hour arguing about how they were handled. Then my brother, the one that owns the game and was reading the rules, this is what he made me do - [Blue, Birds]

Did you not read the attached law of root? They have a secondary rulebook in every box which describes everything in incredible detail, there aren't many things that aren't covered in there.
Incidentally, you can use dominance cards in your decree as usual (only the colour matters for resolving the decree), it's one of the ways to store it so other players can't use it. --- SMM2: 798-FDM-PFG ... Copied to Clipboard!

^ yes, he read them over and over We simply were not getting it. I'm not a big board game guy. I'll play them, but he's the one that reads up and learns how to play to teach me. But it was brand new to both of us, and we just got confused. I didn't read the rules myself, though.
