Ahhhh yes, this is fantastic! Hopefully some of the additional content they're saying it'll have will be a bunch of stuff from the Grimoire Nier book. That stuff is downright essential to getting the most from the story.

It was at a time where developers only believed that people who played Xbox were dudebros and only played CoD/Madden, so they made a grizzly veteran MC for the Xbox version in Japan. Both PS3/360 in the west got Papa Nier because of the current demographics at the time.
If the game was developed today, the west would have definally got Brother Nier on Playstation.

What will they do about voice acting? Brother Nier would obviously need all new dialogue recorded, and lots of NPCs would need at least a few lines changed. That's a big expense for a remaster.

I'm starting to think we get either Gestalt or nothing.

Not exactly. In Japan, there were two different versions, Gestalt and Replicant. Gestalt has you playing as Yonah's father, and Replicant has you playing as her brother. We only got Gestalt in the west.

My new normal is waking up every day wondering if this is the day that Papa Nier will get confirmed for this release.

I may not buy it otherwise! I was kind of being sarcastic last night, but on actual thought I would honestly rather replay the original release that play a prettied up version with Brother Nier.

So if they're using Replicant that means they have to do a totally new voiceover in English, right? Or was the script written in such a way that no other character ever says "your daughter/sister" and so they can just do new voiceover for Nier himself?

Automata is way better in basically every way. (edit: not soundtrack)

Nier's story is only better in theory and concept but the actual cutscenes and plot of Automata is actually good.

I don't think there are many if any differences in the actual script for the other characters in any of the originally voiced lines, other than Brother Nier himself. The part where it gets wierd is there were a handful of differences in the unvoiced lines, and this news says it will be fully voiced.

Tales of Vesperia Definitive kept all of Troy Baker's lines for Yuri, and had someone else record all the new lines. Would likely be that.

If you are interested in playing both and are sensitive to spoilers, you should wait and play Nier before Automata. While the characters are unrelated there are still spoilers in Automata's backstory.

Papa Nier was a huge breath of fresh air JRPG protagonist, so I'm legitimately unlikely to buy this if he doesn't make the cut.

Because the games are the same other than the appearance, and whether the dialogue refers to the character as her father or brother. There's not actually any real difference other than the context of the story, and the context of the story is way better with him as a father.

If you say start getting into the actual background grimmoire lore and side content OUTSIDE of the game, there's big differences, but in game...basically nothing.

So it just boils down to in game brother Nier being a generic loser nobody jRPG protagonist that would fit into any throwaway game, and Papa Nier actually being unique.

There is one line with Emil that is notably different between the two, that has more to do with a facet of Emil than Nier.

I just think it's interesting that people here are throwing a fit cause most people on Twitter in the announcement were saying that Replicant was the superior version and that it hit them harder.
