Been a while since I've seen one. Contest season seems like a good time to get some fresh opinions.

I find movies easier

7-1 > 6 > 3 > 7-2 > 4 > 5 > 2 > 1

2/1 are just obviously the worst even though they're the closest to the books. I find them almost unwatchable now. 4 was a big step backwards after 3 but was fine. I've seen worse movies than 5 but it was very disjointed.

7-2 is really good for the most part but the way they handled Harry/Voldemort's final clash was mind-bogglingly bad and I think the tail end of it (before the epilogue) was rushed. That failure to stick the landing puts it below 6 and makes it the worst of the "good" movies. 6 is just a very fun and easy movie to enjoy, with actually good acting all-round. 7-1 is the same, but with higher stakes, and it felt like nothing was as obviously screwed up as in 7-2.

I'm currently listening to the audiobooks and just reached Deathly Hallows. I'd never finished reading Phoenix way back when, and never touched 6 & 7 at all, so it's all new to me.

My favorite is Goblet, just because of nostalgia. I read this book 5 times back as a kid, and I enjoyed it while re-listening to it not long ago. I also really enjoyed Prince, it was more the pace I enjoy with HP than Phoenix, which felt a little bloated at time, kinda dragged, and even though I know Harry was going through some shit, I preferred him a lot more in Prince (and currently in Hallows) than Phoenix. Though I still kinda prefer Phoenix Harry to him as a child.

Goblet > Prince > Phoenix > Azkaban > Stone > Chamber

Haven't finished Hallows yet so I can't rank it.

Phoenix is so overstuffed with boring crap and features every character at their absolute worst. Easily my least favourite out of all of them.

The only character who is at his worst in Prince is Ron. Harry is a little bitch throughout the fifth book and I get it, so are many 15-year-olds, but holy hell that is not a compelling read. It doesn't help that many of the other characters are also amazingly annoying/dumb throughout the many pages of Order.

The only good character and thing to come out of that book is Luna Lovegood.

Ugh, I get that the book is polarizing but I thought most people agreed that Prince was far and away the weakest movie.

Ooh I reckon I like movie 6 best because: it's the funniest movie of the series, like in terms of jokes/amusing stuff, like the Felix Felicis stuff, all the quidditch and romance stuff, the music even. And I always thought the humor was one of the most important parts of the series--the whole thing is bit of a satire about how adults act.

I also really enjoy the atmosphere: light-heartedness in a dark time, finding ways to enjoy life when everything in the world is at its worst. Feels good. Harry especially is at his most likeable in this movie--confident and fun.

I'd say the only issue I have with movie 6 is probably how the flashbacks got mostly cut, those were fantastic in the book. But I have to admit, I think most movies are too long (in general), so I'm ok with cutting things.

-----

I'd say the worst movie has to be 5--there's no mystery going on like all the other movies, the plot seems incoherent (IMO), Harry is emo, the visual balance is way too dark unless you have a bright TV, and a lot of really good stuff was cut, like the St Mungos stuff.

The best parts of book 5 IMO were the news/ongoings the trio kept hearing about in the outside world, about all the dark things going on in the world, and that context is pretty missing from movie 5.

Ugh this is literally the biggest reason why the sixth movie is my least favorite.

I'll give it one pass, the scene with Harry and Hermione in the corridor and she sends the paper birds flying at Ron, otherwise the love triangles were poorly done and as somebody who never really liked/agreed with either of the romances it was a tough watch.

That's not to say I think Harry should have ended up with Hermione either. Luna would've been the best romance for him.

The general tone of 6 is something I quite enjoy. After how dark 5 was (and I love 5), 6 is a much lighter, brisker read and that happier atmosphere - with Quidditch mattering again and light-hearted dating shenanigans etc - makes me really enjoy it. That's generally reflected in the movie too. I really enjoyed both.
