Lets imagine you get the Rona and need to stay in ICU...

Lets imagine you end up with the rona and you were the unlucky soul who got the stronger strand if the virus which has you going to hospital for a week. They say for the average person/health plan, this sort of thing will cost you 20k out of pocket after your insurance kicked in. Are you ready?

I can afford it, but if I'm going to be honest, I'd just stay home and die from it because I'm pathologically incapable of going to doctors/the hospital unless absolutely necessary, so I'd probably delay to the absolute last minute and just assume I'd power through it like a normal flu. Especially because I don't really flag for any of the high-risk warning signs.

None of the amounts in the poll. I witnessed a family member literally go bankrupt fighting cancer and they had insurance which in my mind says you shouldn't go bankrupt paying medical bills if you have insurance.

Most Americans can't despite having insurance we still can't which tells me the system is flawed. The whole idea of insurance of any kind is to have piece of mind in case of something happening to us and that's not the case with health insurance and most insurance in general.

They nickel and dime folks to death and when it comes time to pay, they play shell games with us.

I understand the DNR if someone is in a situation where there is no hope but for people who have a chance to survive their illness, lack of being unable to pay should not determine whether one lives or not especially when we have health insurance.

The sole purpose of insurance of any kind is to have piece of mind and the purpose of health insurance is to pay for medical care we can't afford as individuals.

Reminds me about 2 years ago i went in for a check up and advised iv been feeling light headed. They ran blood work, had me see a cardiologist for a holter monitor, and prescribed me some anti anxiety meds.

After all that was done they didnt identify the source of the issue and i paid 2200 dollars out of pocket after insurance.

My doctor then discouraged me to getting a body scan because of how costly it is. So here i am now 2 years later still dealing with on and off light headedness and wishing i had that extra 2200 in my pocket still lol

Sadly I have gone down that road with my wife, most health insurance has a cap of 1 million dollars and if your in ICU any length of time (my wife was for like 3 weeks at Saint Luis in Gilroy CA) you eat through that in no time. Once you hit the cap, the dump you like a hot coal and then you have to go through all your assets/savings etc (which happens really fast trust me) before you can get on state medical.

For me though it's more than that, I still try to help people and make at least a small positive difference in the world, but I have no dependants or responsibilities left, and no incentive to go through a long period of recovery etc, nor do I have any wish to be a burden on society.

A full DNR is actually alot more then just not recessitating, it means all they are allowed to do is help releave pain and suffering, but nothing that would keep you alive or prevent you from dying. You can choose the degree when you fill one out, up to what I did which basically means they can't do anything.

My wife passed because she couldn't get into a local hospital due to it being full from flu patients (they even had a satellite center set up), she couldn't get Dialysis and they had to transfer her to another state (good samaritan hospital in portland oregon) so she could (but it took a week to get that set up. By that time she had an infection in her heart which killed her.

I'm not taking up resources so someone younger, with a family etc ends up dying because of me. I'm not in a rush to die, but I'm ready when it happens and don't need people to prevent it.

I dont have to pay, but I hate hospitals anyways and told everyone to let me die instead. Seriously. I have spent enough time there with other people the past two years that anything else is better.

I'm disabled and one of our bill payers was laid off because of all this stuff going on.

Not that I even think about going to the hospital tbh, I'd have to be pretty mindful anyway. Had about a 104 temp for about a week early in the year. Slept a lot off and on in a lot of pain and forced myself to drink water when I could. I'm used to feeling like crap.

IF you really don't want to go, get a DNR form (it's bright green) and place it somewhere that can't be missed if paramedics come over etc, otherwise you could end up on machines etc, and unless you have someone who can speak for you etc, have no option to get off of them.
