There's just no point in keeping them on in Canada. Half the year is snow, don't want that in the house. Quarter is rain and mud. That leaves like maybe 3 months of the year you'd be reasonably confident in your shoes being clean enough to wear indoors. If my arches start causing me pain while standing (usually cooking) I'll put then back on. Whether I take them off in someone else's depends on the person.
