Yep, much better to track it all through your house, and never wash your hands. That way you develop immunity faster. Or not.

You keep mentioning washing your hands. But that doesn't really seem like a good analogy. It's not like you wash your shoes every time you take them off. Washing you hands is something you do all the time. Where washing you shoes is something that you rarely do. And some people never do. In the end, your shoes do come inside the house. So, the germs still get inside. And it can easily spread unless you never step in a spot where your shoes have ever been. It's unlikely that the germs from outside don't ever come inside... And even then, the outside germs can easily get on more thing than just your shoes...

When I date people and eventually bring the dates home, this is how I measure if I should dump the person or not. Shoes still on inside = wife material.
Shoes taken off inside = date cancelled and I tell them how nasty it is to have to smell their feet and that they must leave

Nearly 100% of women kick off their heels as soon as they're home. So you don't get any second dates? Maybe not even any first dates.

Plenty of women don't wear heels, regardless of what Hollywood would like you to think.

Arguably, a majority of women aren't wearing heels a majority of the time.

Yeah, but I don't know you.

You're just a random collection of pixels on a screen, that could be nothing but a hallucination I have where I think I'm talking to strangers on the Internet while I'm actually sitting in a corner drooling on myself and twitching. You are not an actual meat person I can poke with a stick that makes noises (when I poke it with said stick).

Either that, or you could be lying. Or a cunning AI. Or a cunning AI that lies.

My anecdotal evidence only really applies to that which I can see and verify with my own eyes. And again, the only people I've ever really known over the last 40+ years of my life who considered it mandatory to universally take off all shoes at the door were people who were raised in cultures other than the dominant US paradigm. Which includes a metric shit-ton of people, of multiple ethnicities, age groups, and financial situations.

True, but for a first date, I'm going to dress up a bit, which usually means heels, unless we're going sailing or golfing.

In my case, I was brought up with the idea that shoes track all sorts of crap from outside, so people are generally asked to keep their shoes in a corner of the entry for simplified cleanliness reasons. It's not heavily enforced, though, and my folks and I tend not to shun people that choose to keep their shoes on unless their shoes are clearly really dirty. Then you need to take those things off, you monster.

I've honestly never known a single person who took their shoes off at the door of their house who was actually born and raised in the US. The few people I knew who did were all first-generation immigrants or the children who lived in their house and didn't have a choice but to do what they were told.

Living with my dad in HS, we always took our shoes off by the door.

Born and raised in the US, no first gen immigrants. My dad just didn't want his carpet to get ruined quicker.

The few times I've been invited to someone's home when in the US, I was made fun of for taking off my shoes when I got there. Texas, if it's a more regional thing.

There's just no point in keeping them on in Canada. Half the year is snow, don't want that in the house. Quarter is rain and mud. That leaves like maybe 3 months of the year you'd be reasonably confident in your shoes being clean enough to wear indoors. So we just always take them off.

Not usually. But not due to some "don't wear shoes I the house" rule. It's just more comfortable to be shoeless. I wear them to the room and take them off there. Or I'll put them on when I'm getting ready to go somewhere and walk around the house until everyone else is ready to leave.

I take them off in my house. Unless I'm standing for a long time: I have bad arches and getting proper support outside shoes isn't easy. If my arches start causing me pain while standing (usually cooking) I'll put then back on.

Whether I take them off in someone else's depends on the person. The shoes off inside is a somewhat new idea in the US, at least where I live. As a kid you could take them off in your house, but taking them off in someone else's was a bit... presumptuous I guess. Nowadays, a lot of people expect it, however, so I look around for signs (shoe racks and such) or ask at a new place.

Knew a guy who claimed somebody did that to him. Co worker was having a rough time so he invited him over to watch wrestlemania to try and be nice and let the guy have a stress free night. Said he went to take his uniform off and when he came back dude was on his sofa in just his briefs and a beer already cracked open.

For real. It's crazy how many people don't know how to be comfortable. I try to wear as little as possible at home. Maybe just some house shorts and probably no underwear. Do these people seriously wait till they go to bed to take their shoes off?

It may be weird to some people. But everyone has different things that make them comfortable. Like how some people like it cooler or warmer in their house. Or some people like long or short sleeved shirts. Like I have long-sleeved shirts and feel super uncomfortable in them. But I know people who hate shirt sleeve shirts because their arms feel weird being exposed...
