I've heard that people from the USA wear shoes in their own house. Nobody I know does that.

Side question, when you visit other people's houses, do you keep your shoes on? That would be extremely rude where I live.

I take them off unless I come back home from somewhere or need to nip back home for something. I even ask folk if I should take my own footwear off when I'm in their home. Some think it's weird I ask that because they have wooden flooring but it's just a form of curtsy to me.

I don't wear them unless I'm getting in the car to go somewhere. I got a callus abou an eigth of an inch thick though so its like a shoe

Shoes suck. No shoes when I'm home. Fuck, I try to slip out of them when I can at work behind my desk.

other people's homes: I follow their lead. If they take them off, I gladly take mine off (unless the floor looks dirty/gross). If they leave their shoes on...I politely suffer through leaving mine on.

Nope. The first thing I do when I enter my place is take off my shoes. Why would I want to bring outside dirt and shit inside my house, thats disgusting

I don't where shoes at home but my wife frequently does. I pretty much never take my shoes off in another person's house though.

What is so different to understand? My legs differ by about 1.5 cms in length, enough to have caused me back issues before I learned of it.

Yeah my family has 5 poorly trained dogs so mud, piss and whatnot keep most of the house floor disgusting. Even then other people in the house do so too, If I was on my own I wouldn't allow it.

If your floors are clean then there's no reason to wear shoes inside. It's really stupid to wear shoes on carpet though.

I generally don't wear shoes in my apartment unless I'm either going out on my balcony for a while, or entering/exiting my apartment

When I visit someone else's home I usually leave my shoes on, unless I'm going to be staying there for a while or have some other reason for getting undressed. In my own home I always take off my shoes as soon as I can, though I sometimes wear slippers when it's cold.

Clearly your issue is quite unique. For most people, shoes arent necessary in the house and, in fact, its pretty gross wearing outside shoes in the house

The second part of that sentence is slightly less common yes, the part about shoes being for support is much more universal.

Not typically regular shoes, but if I'm going to be home for any length of time it'll be something like slippers. I guess it's been about 2 decades since a coffee table last had a chance to rip off a toe, and I'll not ever be allowing that again.

If I go out and come back with plans to leave soon then I will just keep them on, but I prefer slippers

No. They might stay on for a few minutes before I leave/when I get home, but I don't wear shoes in my house. I don't wear shoes at other people's homes either.

Oh how did humans survive before them?

Wearing shoes all day make me feet hurt. Hell i go barefoot outside provided its not cold and im not leaving the yard.

Its depends. Ill probably wear then to go to my room. But Im more comfortable out of them, so I try not to wear them for too long. Unless Im going to leave again and only came back for a short time or something...

For other peoples house, it also depends. Like my one friend, nobody wears shoes inside. And they have a place for them by the door. Another friends, we take them off when we get to whichever room were going to, if we take them off at all.

My shoes are fine. I work 13 hours a day. Well and at my job you are issued boots. They are ok but not for 13 hours.

We always take shoes off when we get home and leave them right next to the doors . I'm not a hygiene expert , but I wouldn't like to bring home whatever is on the street , same with clothes

Only if I have to go out, then straight off when I get back.
If I've put new carpeting down the room(s) they're in become a no shoe zone for several months. With my dog and all though it does become a bit redundant since he has full run of the house (not a dirty dog, just very furry it's a full time job keeping up with his moulting.

My dog sheds so much. When vacuuming, it gets stuck all the time and I have to keep cleaning it out... I'm glad the carpet is gone now. That why I like hardwood floors, or something similar. Just a sweep and mop...

I've honestly never known a single person who took their shoes off at the door of their house who was actually born and raised in the US. The few people I knew who did were all first-generation immigrants or the children who lived in their house and didn't have a choice but to do what they were told.

Why would anyone want to track street grime, other people's spit, mud, fertilizer, insecticides, automobile oil drippings, animal feces, pollen, etc. into their house rather than leaving their shoes by the door? Or do you never walk on sidewalks, through grass and dirt, through parking lots, or cross streets, so you can keep your walking shoes immaculate?
