Then China would have been screwed 10 ways economically, lost a lot of manufacturing work permanently while the rest of the world was fine.

I blame the Left who, before this thing happened, claimed that closed borders were racist

Really, by the time it became apparent that stopping travel to/from China was necessary, it was already too late for it to stop anything. It might have slowed things down, but at the same time, it might have lulled the rest of the world into a false sense of security and thereby slowed our response to it.

Tbf, the whole world should have refused to do business with china for decades, but greed and profiteering got in the way of ostracizing terrible countries

I can't believe I'm saying this...but I agree with this.

We try and shut down the border with Mexico and it's racist and xenophobic. Mexico tries to shut down the border with America, and it's stunning and brave. No chanting of "no borders, no wall, no Mexico at all".

Most of our trading partners are terrible countries and even most first-world nations are known for human rights abuses. Plus isolation hasn't really worked out anyway, considering that it was our policy for NK, Cuba, and other places where ultimately just everyday citizens suffered.

That's a whole different story. Closing down borders at a regular time because "they're all rapists and drug smugglers", and closing the borders because the next country over has a shitload of cases of an epidemic disease is completely different.

I'd believe you in earnest save for all the pearl clutching when we started travel bans at the start of the outbreak. Trump tried to shut down the border, people cried. Now the same people are crying that we didn't do it soon enough, so spare me the feigned indignance.

How braindead have you got to be to blame "the Left" for the borders not being sealed back in January, when not only is it the Trump administration that's been in charge of the borders since 2017 but until a few weeks ago no administration, of whatever political complexion, has ever contemplated a total ban all movement into the US outside of the extremely rare case of a supreme national emergency.
