People don't realize how long it takes for human trials for anything remotely serious.
You /really/ don't want to fuck up this vaccine, even if it's being sped up.

To fully immunize a society, you need something like 85%-95% of the population vaccinated for that disease.
If it has a /slight/ issue because it was rushed, and something like 5% of people die, that's worse than what the virus could ever do.

They're overdoing it. Increases in testing mean more positive hits to find hotspots but they don't sort out the emergency cases and the recover at home cases. Leading some duds to misread the data. It's a concern but not a full blown panic. There is NO excuse to remain shut down for more than a month tops. None. With that said, high risk cases should exercise a bit more caution. That's all.

Three weeks would have worked though if everyone did it though right?

Enough for those who know they are carriers to get thier symptoms and realize they need to stay home a little longer. Enough for everyone else to realize they are clean.

Enough for it to die on all surfaces it may have been on.

Problem was nobody wants to accept a lockdown for a few weeks and there has been rampant disregard for it pretty much all around America. So we have to do this forever.

Honestly, to the asshats who just keep getting out and going to gatherings and businesses that arent essential but try and pretend as though you are... and also to the people in China who eat rodents for a hobby... I just hope one day that you are forced to go on mandatory unemployment for weeks with two kids in a small house who make you watch Frozen 2 endlessly. You deserve it more than I did that's for damn sure

Absolutely everyone? Yeah, provided that's paired with comprehensive testing and subsequent full quarantine of anyone that shows symptoms and anyone living with them, and it is a full lockdown (no leaving your house for anything). The logistics of making that happen are complicated, though, since that means every person in the country needs three weeks' worth of food (delivered in a manner that prevents transmission between recipients, which is tricky), utility workers still need to get to work because everyone still needs power and whatnot, emergency services need to keep running (including emergency plumbing, electrical, and other such services), and all of this has to be paid for without anyone being able to work.

Even if everyone now was actually listening to social distancing recommendations, the fact that people are still going to be leaving the house to get groceries and the like means you're still going to get a growing number of cases, albeit at a slower rate than you're seeing with people ignoring them, and that number of cases would still end up exploding once life returned to normal and it was able to transmit freely. Anything less than a complete lockdown won't stop the virus, it'll only slow it down to levels that the health care system can manage (which reduces overall casualties dramatically), and to that end, those measures need to be in place for longer than a complete lockdown would.

I'm so glad we have some guy in a computer chair with no medical training whatsoever available to tell us all how actual doctors and epidemiologists don't understand the issue as well as he does and that we can safely ignore what they say in favour of his assessment of the situation. That's really very helpful and doesn't make him look at all like an idiot with an inflated sense of self-importance.

Who needs credentials? It's a virus not doomsday. Basic practices should be enough for most, wash hands, stay home when ill, the same common sense stuff I wish I saw more of here. I get that it's a bit different for compromised individuals which I'm thankfully not part of. Most of us could start getting back to normal.

Really, you all fell for the political BS and the media slid right into virus hype. You ask for my credentials but what about them? Any slob could throw on a lab coat and a name tag to make claims so you "tune in at 5". They're a business, I'm not.

Nobody here has a medical background. Nor am I making specific claims like the time until we get a vaccine or whatever. No it's just an extension of the political drama that plagued here earlier. You get one idea in your head and that's the only thing you'll accept forever. And hey maybe it comes down to you wanting off of work, getting to sit at home for however long. I'm not seeing any reason to actually believe that projection, the various government reactions plays into that way too heavily. If, come April 1st, Trump comes out and says "We did it, Covid-19 is defeated, everything is back to normal", it's going to be massively different than if things stay quarantined.

There isn't any significant reason to believe that the inflection point for death is 15 days away, let alone what every hospital in the US is going to react to this. There's just way too much detail, and too little way of knowing.

I assume it only take into effect things that currently are in place to model its forecasts... Things will obviously change over the next 2 weeks. It isn't meant to be taken as absolute. I thought folks here would find the statistical modeling interesting, especially because you can review each state separately.
