It IS really strange if you're a metroidvania fan. Nowadays you can't ask for a recommendation in that genre without fifteen billion people telling you to play Hollow Knight.

Im sad... i put on my bracket Berseria would win and now i lost already , oh well i did knew Berseria is from a niche series but that niche series is my favorite JRPG Series of all time, so im fine with it, at least it managed a nomimation, but im still kinda sad that friggin Final Fantasy XV is still beating Edith Finch and Berseria also... i guess popularity always speaks higher.

But I also took LiS over Halo
I know Master Chief was a powerhouse here back in the day but I didn't think Halo would be still releveant
And...it isn't. This is a poor performance after all. Not as poor as I wanted, but poor nonetheless

At the one hour mark in today's matches:

We're nearly 500 votes behind the first day of matches from the 2018 contest. In terms of raw vote totals, we're almost 300 votes behind the first day of matches from the 2018 contest.

We currently have 1693 raw votes from the first hour of voting in this contest. Based on the distribution of votes from the previous contest with an 8:00 PM start time, this puts us on track to finish with about 14500 raw votes for the first day of matches in this contest. Though it should be noted that the first day or two can sometimes get lower vote totals before picking up later in the round. The first 2 days of the 2018 contest had notably lower vote totals than the rest of round 1.

At the end of the first hour, we currently have 66.27% of the total votes coming from registered users. This is very similar to the percentage of registered user votes we had at the end of the first hour on Day 1 of the 2018 contest (65.86% registered user votes). I expect this to drop later in the contest as more outsiders and casual voters discover the contest is currently going on.

Someone pointed out in the last topic that today's votals were behind last contest's Day 1 matches, despite having exactly the same voting format, almost the same starting time, and more brackets entered this time.

The only logical conclusion I can come up with for what's causing this is that it's easier for people to loosely vote for characters they don't know or care about than to loosely vote for games they haven't played. Like, not every person likes to just bracket-vote since it doesn't seem fair, so they might as well abstain.

Let's not overreact. Hollow Knight being slightly better than a third-tier entry in a fourth-tier JRPG series doesn't mean Cuphead will be a threat to something from a series people actually care about.

Characters are much easier to vote for, as voters can vote based on character design. That's not the case with games, which generally requires hands on exposure with the game for someone to make a proper decision on which game to vote for. If you haven't played either game in a particular match, it's a lot harder to choose which game to vote for. This issue is compounded even worse by the forced voting in all 4 matches. I would expect vote totals to improve in the later rounds as the weaker games are eliminated. We may even see an improvement as early as round 2.

Also willing to bet Hollow Knight is better than Cuphead as of 2020. Yah yah I know Cuphead beat it in 2017, but HK didn't hit its stride until the Switch release, and now it's on all current gen consoles.

Hollow Knight has an 'it' factor that most indies don't have, the kind of lore and world building that nabs you that tumblr-esque fanbase that will shill for you and churn out fanart by droves. The last indie game to have that it factor was Undertale, and, well, yah.

Well i guess if i were to put it to this decade, well you wouldn't be wrong, most of the good ones came out in the 00's, i just hope Arise can be just as good, despite i not thinking Berseria is a bad game, just not for everyone as the poll shows i guess.

Symphonia matches Hollow Knight in playrate. The others, not so much.

Taking Berseria was always about assuming that GameFAQs would implicitly prefer the JRPG to the indie game. Apparently, that is not inherently the case.

People need to stop comparing other Tales games to Symphonia.

The other ones weren't the bastion of JRPG hope in a sea of nothing. That's the reason Symphonia is worth anything in the contests. Tales without bonus popularity for being on Nintendo is...Star Ocean.

I'm using the GameFAQs community for my comparison, truth is I didn't research actual game sales data. I'm impressed that the game did that well. On GameFAQs though, Berseria was played by more people (about 1000 more) and the board is massive in comparison to Hollow Knight's--

im just going to assume Vesperia has outsold Bersperia.

theres a solid chance Hollow Knight has outsold every game in the Tales series.

Some people here seem to be completely devaluing indie games, but many of the indie games in this bracket are pretty mainstream, especially compared to the non-Square Jrpgs in the bracket.
