Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is currently sitting on my table. Should I wait to play it after this one? I know they're separate stories but are there QoL improvements that will make the first game feel worse to play?

I'm probably not going to get to XC2 until after FF7R so it'll be a while anyway.

all three Xenoblade games have unique strengths and weaknesses that make approaching them in any order okay

With that said I think I prefer the art style of the original. It had a unique darker pastel look that has been traded for a more generic anime look. Specifically something about Shulk's face in the new version makes him look like a different person. Still very hyped but I wish they'd stayed closer to the original style while also making it HD.

How long do people guess a fairly thorough (but not completionist) playthrough of this would be? I plan on playing through Persona 5 Royal when it comes out and if it takes me two months to finish, I'm not sure how prepared I'll be to tackle another RPG given how drained I was last time I finished P5.

Also, I didn't like the voice acting in the trailer, Shulk's especially. Does it grow on you?

I was thinking this too. Shulk and Sharla especially look a lot younger now, in a way that isn't an improvement.

Xenoblade is around 60 hours if you aren't a completionist

Personally I like the new character models they're how they were in Xenoblade 2 to make it moe consistent. Also I don't think there's any denying the character models were the weakest point of the original game.

Really looking to any QoL improvements especially with side quest tracking

They were horrible, but they were more unique than the new ones. I think they have a weird ugly charm, but I don't mind the new ones.

That said, I will not play this game again. The first time was like 80 hours for me.

The more I look at the comparison shots, the more I feel like my issues with the new art style are Shulk-specific.

it's kinda like how the FFVIIIR made Squall look just like his Dissidia self, which I wasn't a huge fan of

I feel like the original Xenoblade 1 character concept art is the best Shulk has ever looked. He's been in five games since then and they've never been able to replicate that look. Xenoblade 1 tried but was held back by hardware.

It's not hugely important in the grand scheme of things, but Shulk is one of my favorite all-time characters so it'll take some getting used to.

XBC2 has some problems. There were like 3 times I wanted to drop the game entirely but also really liked the game and played it for 200 hours.

Speaking of... (Major Xenoblade 1 AND 2 spoilers) The trailer has Alvis's pendant thing replaced with a core crystal in an apparent confirmation of the fan theory that he is the third Aegis.

I don't love the new art style but i do appreciate that it's a lot higher res (peoples' faces in both the Wii and 3DS versions have always seemed weirdly low def, even for their time), and the UI looks REALLY good. The promising of a happy dancing Riki every time I open up the menu is enough to sell me, except I don't particularly want to revisit this game, I had my fill already the first time I played it
