wtf is this garbage. Does he really think people would behave more selflessly without religion? If anything, it's the opposite. Religion tricks people into serving communities with the promise of a reward in heaven.

China, America, Europe etc are all secular now and people behave the same way if not worse because of individualism. (which I have nothing against)

A world without possessions? What the fuck is he even talking about? We had that, the cavemen had no legal concept of possessions. We built societies to enforce the concept of possession so that we wouldn't work for stuff just for someone else to club our fucking heads in to take our shit.

In case you're not just joking, the song isn't meant to be some magna carta on how the Earth should function.

He qualifies the statement with "nothing to kill or die for" referring to religious wars.

I agree that removing religion from the world wouldn't fundamentally make us more peaceful, but I get what he was going for.

The only thing wrong about the song, was the guy singing it. He was everything the song was against. He was one of the first that knew pandering silly nonsense/ideals into songs meant more $$$ from the vulnerable.

There was a biography written about him where he was complaining about money. The person brought up his song Imagine(Imagine no posessions), and Lennon's reply was, "It's just a song."

Rose tinted glasses portray them as a legendary band, but they were basically the 5 Seconds Of Summer of the 60s/70s.

songs do that, reflect about life and its experiences put in words and a tune of expression. some experience the songs in ways that they themselves cannot express but do express it through song. cringe all you want. many songs do that. its the same now as it was then. people connect to lyrics and tunes.

john lennon was shot in the back and murdered cause of the song. that guy couldnt imagine a world without religion that it compelled him to commit murder.
