So I've been to about 7 Mystery Tours (islands) and I haven't found a villager yet.

I completed the 3 houses and furnished them. Before that I never used a Nook Ticket to check out other islands, was too busy fishing and roaming around my own island. Does this mean my 3 villagers have been determined and I missed out and finding them myself or do they just not show up on Mystery Tours at night?

I think you missed the window. I invited villagers before Nook talked about setting houses up. They might start showing up again once you start being able to get more villagers, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know what the house expansion after the back room is? I'm debating dumping my money into paying off that loan or saving it for town projects once I get the expanded office on Friday.

What mechanics are there relating to villagers? are you supposed to give them stuff or do things for them? I just talk to them every day and hope they give me stuff

I've had two errands for Kevin and one for Canberra so far. Had to catch a yellow perch and an ocean fish for Kevin, and Canberra needed me to return something she borrowed to Nate (and she didn't give me a reward, the jerk). One of the errands came from a ping, but the other two were from me repeatedly talking to them. It didn't start happening until yesterday.

There's a hidden friendship level. In New Leaf, the more a villager liked you, the better stuff they'd give you for completing errands. One of the things they could eventually give you was a framed photograph of themselves.

I just came in here to ask this exact thing. No delivering something to a neighbor, no digging a time capsule for them, no inviting you over to their house or to meet at your house at a specific time, that stuff was a significant portion of interaction with them in every previous game

Maybe all this starts once Resident Services building is up? That kinda seems like a moment of "okay, tutorial's over, now play the game" so maybe things change more significantly there.

wasps are the easiest bug to catch in the game

equip your net before you shake a tree, always shake any tree from the bottom, make sure the space to your left and right are clear, if a hive falls you will automatically turn and face it, then mash A and you will catch it literally 100% of the time
