You mean the package the dumb Dems just presented that's basically a Green new deal package, diversity garbage, and with SOME covid-19 relief? Where a Democrat representative said that it was a "tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision"? They REALLY are giving a fuck about the people affected by this situation and totally not trying to push their useless sjw agenda.

Oh yes, we sorely need that crap. Where are all the typical geniuses that screamed yesterday about the republicans trying to push their interests and not giving a shit about the people?

It's a mixed bag for me. You have millions of people who are currently unemployed because they were laid-off due to Covid-19 or their business closed temporarily so the alleged $1,000 could come in handy, but if it's just a one-time thing, that $1,000 won't go far as that's a drop in the bucket for those whose incomes are much higher (most middleclass). If anything, the checks should reflect the person's income, with no checks given to those who make over (ie: $100,000 or something like that). IMO, if you make $100,000 a year and you're currently unemployed, you probably have a good amount of savings in the bank. Use that. It's what it's for.

The bill should just be straight Covid-19 relief. Nothing else. Save the addons for later.

Agreed. Just make a fucking bill that sticks to helping people and small businesses who are actually hurt by this. The instant that something steers off the Covid-19 situation, it needs to be removed.

Apparently that's too difficult to do for both sides. Both are trying to push their respective agenda, but it's fucking amazing that this new deal would have even more pandering garbage in it.

Ok I read it, what the heck is wrong with it? I don't see anything other then a green thing for airlines that has nothing to do with the current crisis.

The relief money is $1500 instead of $1200....which makes a bit more sense honestly, $1200 is not enough for many places in the US, at least if people are having to pay rent still.

They base it off Tax ID numbers not having filed, so anyone 18 or older would actually get it (as loog as they are a legal citizen). That is WAY better and leaves way less people out in the cold (figuratively and literally).

Some of it is unessessary but over at it seems fine. Are you just mad cause it's a demo plan? I mean who gives a crap, give the plan to the republicans have them propose it and then let them get credit for it, but just pass it already.

Bah, I'm biased, I'm so freaking tired of the Dem VS Rep crap, and it triggers me.

Honestly I'd like to cut most of that crap out of the Dem plan as well and focus on what we need RIGHT now, and then add the long term shit later, but whatever, that's not the world we live in.

But I do like the Dem plan of $1500 per person based on Tax ID better then the Rep plan of $1200 based on filing in 2019 and if you made less then 24k you only get $600.

It's actually kind of morbidly hilarious to watch what is trying to get pushed in as part of "Coronavrius Response".

Steve Mnuchin wants to get rid of Dodd-Frank
The Peace Corps is using it as justification to fire 7300 volunteers.
Texas is using it as justifications to semi-outlaw abortions (no abortions are currently allowed unless the mother's life is in danger)
The Justice Department wants to do away with that pesky "Habeus Corpus" stuff and just hold people indefinitely without trial or charge

The winner for the most flagrant abuse of power, however, has to be Israel, where Netanyahu used the crisis as pretext to shut down the country's justice system (in one of those wacky coincidences that seem to pop up when stuff like this happens, he did so a couple days before he was to appear to face on charges of corruption). One of his appointees has refused to convene the Knesset to pass new legislation (in another of the aforementioned wacky coincidences, one of the bills up for consideration was one that would prevent any individual that is charged with a crime from serving as Prime Minister) and is now defying a Supreme Court order that says that he must allow the votes to proceed, including those that would potentially replace him.

I still think it's rediculous, just make a 1 page proposal to help the people and deal with the other stuff later.

I agree with you on that, just make a simple bill in plain language that helps people, but there was a lot more than just the airline stuff that was hidden in the 1400 pages. They should at least be able to line item vote parts of a bill instead of passing or denying a bill wholesale.

I beleive that it has been removed but it was there before, in all the recent posts though it only says your get less than $1200 IF you make over 75k (or if you didn't file etc).

So I think that was removed.

As far as the number, they said if you made less then $2500 I think it was, you would get nothing, and most people don't file if they make less than $12000 (due to owing no taxes and getting no tax returns usually), They never specified the number but $24k was a logical number.

Hopefully none of it matters now.

What does matter is if they don't have a current direct deposit on file for you (and I believe my last direct deposit for them was on a bank account I have closed), they will mail you a check but it says it could be 3-4 months before it arrives.

So everyone should log into the IRS website and ensure they have a direct deposit set up before April 6th, and if you can't you should call them and try to set up one that way.

Otherwise you could be waiting for a long time for the check.

I'm willing to call both sides out, and unlike most, I'd rather get nothing and not add 2 trillion to our deficit this year, then end up increasing our national debt by 20% or more.

I do think we need to offer relief to those who are not able to work, but, there is an easier way to do it that doesn't involve owing china another 5 trillion dolllrs.

First you halt all mortgages for the duration of the outbreak, second you halt all rental paments as well (along with the current cease and desist on any evictions which already have kinda effectively done that). Third you halt all property taxes collected until this ends.

This effectively makes rent free for the duration.

Stage 2, you provide food stamps for everyone (not free money, just free food) and you supplement the farmers etc to produce that food cheaply. This would cost WAY less than giving everyone $1200.

Waving property taxes and mortgages (along with all rental costs) would also include all buisinesses, so most of the overhead fo them would be gone, solving the problems they are having currently. There would still be some loss, and that could be dealt with by giving tax credits at the end of the year for companies that are out money due to the virus.

The only reason to really borrow extra money is to buffer our health care system and get more supplies but honestly we should be able to do that already, without taking out a loan basically.

We can't do anything about the 1.5 trillion they already blew trying to save the stock market, but we COULD prevent spending another 2 trillion dollars on this relief package.

This is not free money people, we (or more likely future generations/our kids etc) are going to have to pay it back eventually. We already were having a deficit each year of 1.1 trillion dollars or so and have been for a long time, that was already pretty bad, but adding over 5 trillion to it in 1 year......it's likely to have a direct effect when this is over basically.

What is that effect? Well, before we were spending about 1/3 more then we were taking in, pretty bad, but china etc was letting it slide. When this ends if we owe 25 trillion or more (or the value of the dollar drops because of "creating" more money, so the 20 trillion we owe is now actually 25 trillion, we could go from spending 1/3 more, to having to spend 50% as much as we have been each year to pay back what we owe.

That would probably also include higher taxes for everyone in order to compensate for that etc. The basic point is we have to pay that back somettmes, and we are basically already 20+ years in arrears if we HALVED how much we spend every year so we can pay back 1 trillion a year (instead of increasing out debt by 1 trillion).

That is a whole generation already who could grow up while paying back what their parentt/grandparents built up as debt:(

I get trying to stimulate the economy and more importantly for the generally rich politicians and their friends, boost the stock market. I just cringe inside at the long term costs of this method, and the fact that quite likely this is going to end up mainly lining the pockets of the wealthy in this country while the general population gets stuck with a massive long term bill.

I'm old though, and not that healthy, I have a DNR so I don't use up resources when I get really sick. I have done what I can to make the world a better place, not I just try not to use any resources and make it harder for people. I can't fix these problems, but it still hurts me to see them being created. I know there are other ways this could have been done, but the American people have no say in any of it, and even if they did, I sadly don't believe they would vote down anything that gave them money now, even if they had to pay it back later:(

The lopsided priorities of the last 5 decades by our government is really the cause of all of this misery. All the bailouts that never should have happened, the lack of action on critical issues, the people not paying attention to the corruption in Washington, and really our leaders not listening to the people. I guess we all made this mess. I wanted a better world for my grandson. I wanted "Star Trek" and got "The Walking Dead". I think I may have just been forced to grow up and am ready to listen to ideas to make things better. I really don't know if anything I can do can make anything better but I know I'm going to try.
