all numbers now are based on actions 2 weeks ago.
people collectively need to understand this fact because some are wanting immediate results and that's just not gonna happen. you know how we all were bitching about those teens in florida? yeah, we're not seeing the results of that until next week. in other words, things are absolutely going to look worse for the next week and that hopefully makes us get better today.

The virus usually takes between a few days to 2 weeks for symptoms to start showing up in most cases. It explains why numbers still rise at first once lockdown is in place.

It's not just the delays in symptoms (which can, as mentioned, take up to two weeks, but is on average like 5 days). It's also that people don't immediately get tested/seek treatment (symptoms often get worse) and there's a long turnaround time with current tests.

California has done well so far but with a smaller curve you do still have to maintain social distancing for a longer period of time. The real test is still coming and I know multiple idiots that have stated they dont intend to be cooped up beyond Easter.

Well some great news for small business owners! The SBA PPP business loan is amazing imo. Any business under 500 employees can apply for it. I have an annual payroll of about 200k. You get up to 2.5x last years payroll as a loan. So I can loan 500k. Any amount of that 500k that I use for payroll, employee health care, utilities, mortgage interest, or my own salary up to 100k by June 30th will be completely forgiven come Jan 2021. The remaining balance becomes a 10 year loan at 4% interest. This means even if I have to close down I can keep paying my employees their full payroll amount until June 30th even if they don't work.

I went grocery shopping today a little before the order was given and the streets here looked like an especially busy Saturday.

Governor in KY issued an executive order today. No leaving the state for non-essential reasons. Told everyone who's already out of state to quarantine for 14 days when they come home.

I know several people personally and have heard even more stories online of people who are just blatantly disregarding the stay at home orders. Makes me feel almost foolish when I talk to them being all cooped up in my place while they continue to go out multiple times a day to buy stuff and have kids friends over and extended family gatherings and such.

Yeah that seems pretty ridiculous. We have a stay at home order but it isn't actually being enforced. It's in place until April 9th right now. I'll obey it until then or even until May (as I fully expect it to be extended) but if they threw out a June date then I'd be far less inclined to actually stick to it.

I mean Spain shot right by us in terms of death figures. I assume that's largely because the US is such a large country. According to some of the latest figures though, the number of serious/critical cases we have is near Italy's current number so yeah, I think it could be a matter of time.
