Anybody like this movie? I read the book and thought they did a decent job adapting it.. I guess people might think it's macabre to watch this right now but idk, it's a way to deal with it. At least Corona's not some 100% lethal super virus like this movie. Who's going to Las Vegas and who's going to Nebraska/Colorado? I'd like to think I'd be on Mother Abigail's side...

I have not seen it, never even heard about it.

I did watch Contagion the other day, that's a decent movie. Kate Winslett is hot.

I'd definitely recommend at least the book (unless you're prone to anxiety from horror stuff). I agree the miniseries isn't as good but well cast and some cool visuals

I liked their choice of opening songs for the first and second episodes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQXqZ8JJktw&t=0m20s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qJk4nzBIJg&t=0m36s

It was a fairly good adaptation, all things considered. It's kind of hard to adapt a 1000+ page book that dense as a fairly low-budget 4-episode miniseries. But they got a ton of great actors, everyone involved was generally taking it seriously and not half-assing it, and it was good enough that it encouraged a lot of people at the time to go read the novel for the first time, so there's that. And it was one of the first major roles for Gary Sinise (Forrest Gump being the other), where you're like "Say, I like this guy, I hope he does more stuff."

(Plus, for you 90s/00s kids, Patrick from Spongebob is in it, basically playing Patrick. So you'll love that!)

The novel is obviously better (novels almost always are), but the show hits most of the major important points. It collapses a few characters down (ie, one character in the show will handle the roles of multiple characters from the book), and ignores some characters and events entirely, but it does a good job with the time it has, and tells the story well enough.

Know what's even weirder? Not only did Stephen King write that book, throughout his works he has this weird thing about the number 19 (like most people do regarding 13).

What number is used describing the Coronavirus again?

And yeah the acting is pretty good. I do like Gary Sinise in this movie.

In the book, Larry meets a woman named Rita in NYC and travels with her for a while. In the movie, he immediately meets Nadine. I guess Rita is one of the characters you were saying was combined into another

I think the actress that plays Nadine sells the unstable quality pretty well even from the beginning

Yeah, Rita got turned into Nadine, because they had similar interactions with Larry, and combining the two meant they could save an actress and make things slightly less confusing for the viewer. There's already like a hundred significant characters in the show as-is.

Besides, Rita dies before Nadine comes into the story, so it's easy to fuse the two.

There's a few other characters combined like that (one of the spies they send to Vegas is one, if I remember correctly).

The Kid is one of the ones who's dropped entirely, if I remember correctly. It's been a long time since I've either read the book or seen the show (though I'm pretty sure I have the miniseries on VHS tape somewhere).

Hmmm thought the kid was still in the movie (They find him later and he gets attached to nadine I think).

Rita was meh anyway, glad they ditched her, Nadine ROCKED in that movie.

Actually really, really liked the miniseries, I can't believe they are remaking it.

Yeah the book was better, but they did an amazing job translating it, Randal Flag was awesome, Nadine was great, all the main chars were very good as well.

The sound track (SK usually does good with those) kicked Ass. Even with SNL doing the whole more cowbell thing, Don't fear the reaper will always be assosiated with The Stand for me.

Probably my favorite mini-series of all time tbh.

Oh, That Kid, the one with Trashcan man, yeah he was dropped and I'' glad, thought you meant the kid with Larry and Nadine.

Captain Trips!

The Stand is probably my favorite of the King adaptations. As mentioned, the book is better but I loved this mini-series and the entire cast.
