Seriously, who the fuck decided they should declare themselves an essential business?

You cant possibly have a scummier move from a PR perspective than this.

I have to assume their online pick up system is either overwhelmed or garbage or both.

Missus wants Animal Crossing. GameStop offering a $10 voucher to buy from them so they are the cheapest option. Called the store at Noon when they opened to confirm the process. Was told after placing order online it takes like 40 mins for them to get it and have it ready. Placed order immediately and get order confirmation. Now 5.5 hours later still no email that it's ready for pickup. We did call them at 4 to see if there was an issue with it or if we just hadn't gotten the email but said they didn't have it on their end still and were pretty snippy on the phone.

I can confirm that the servers are overwhelmed. I worked there since open and we didn't have a single order. we just simply not receiving them

people don't know HOW to do the pick up from store order

apparently its showing up for some items but not others

AAAAAND Apparently the website isn't like....picking up our inventory. Its saying we are out of stuff when we aren't

this is a complete shit show

all I did today, other than answering the phone, was clean and super organize the store

Yeah, we went the entire day without receiving confirmation so despite buying this thing at opening we are now after closing and don't have the damn game. If I had known we wouldn't get it today, I would have just bought it from Walmart as the GameStop we had to order from isn't even local. So now for what I'll save in money, I'll lose in inconvenience by having to go out of the way to collect it plus not having the game for an extra day when my missus wanted to play it with her friends today who all bought switches especially for this

Gamestop: We essential!
Public: I buy game from Gamestop! Gamestop love us in dark times! Hooray Gamestop!
Government: People riot if no Gamestop! All Gamestop open. Give Gamestop many money to survive dark times. Hooray business!

idk why everyone is a caveman there, but yeah...what seems obvious to people and obvious to corporations are quite different it seems.

Good. Fucking trash can company.

Meanwhile, Hobby Lobby remains open even though it could be considered a non-essential retail store chain similar to GameStop. I suspect it's only a matter of time until Hobby Lobby is forced to shut down, whenever there's at least one state willing to take the same action against them that Pennsylvania did to GameStop.

The company I work for is still open and operating at full capacity because we are a class 2 medical device so deemed as essential. Which would be all well and good if we were just attending to service as required but we are still trying to sell as much as possible too which is doubly bad because our clientbase is the elderly. Also no remote working for office staff despite it being entirely possible. So we have 300-400 people in an office every day when most of them could work from home.

I'm based out of the training facility where there's only like 7 of us in a big building so not a huge deal but I still have to go to the main building 3-4 times a week for meetings

they now want us to handle the customer's cards for them so they can theoretically make purchases faster.

They have to call and we have to get the item ready for them first, but ...yea >_>

and of course, because we're handling the registers again, they'll want us to get numbers again too

It's pretty dumb. They could've just silently remained open and wouldn't get as much flak for it because so many businesses are doing that as we speak.

From what I understand, they thought it was messed up Walmart and Target can run electronics sections and (possibly Best Buy was allowed to stay open?) And that they weren't and they figured it was driving a nail into their coffin.

Their own workers threw them under the bus. Same as the Shell cracker plant in Monaca. They were open. Were gonna remain open. An employee complained about the eating areas and busses into the plant and posted it on social media. So they had to half construction of the plant and it made 1800 people lose their jobs including my father.

are you blaming that employee for the company's insistence that it's an essential retailer but failing to modify operations in light of the growing pandemic for the safety of its employees (including your father) who it was requiring to come in

Lopen asked why they didn't just silently not follow it. I said that the employees threw them under the bus on social media which is why it came to light.

And, no one was required to come in at the cracker plant. They put out a list asking who wanted to keep working there. Those are union jobs where if someone doesn't want to work they can pull from a pool of union workers who want to work.

They made it clear anyone with symptoms or sick was to not come to work or would be sent home from work. Everyone acknowledged that and had a voluntary work force.

Despite that, someone still complained and posted pictures of the mess hall during lunch and and complained until they shut it down. They plan to reopen it, but still. That's 1800 some employees making a lot of money who might not be making anything now.

ah that's a different situation

that said employees should totally be throwing companies under the bus if they do the bare minimum for employee health (knowing that many employees continue working not out of love for the company but for financial need). gamestop was going full steam ahead with "nothing to see here, no extra precautions or cleaning materials, good luck"

Again. Lopen asked why they didn't stay silent. In both of these cases was employees throwing them under the bus.

The GameStop thing is simply not agreeing they weren't life essential when ordered to shut down. Had nothing to do with their cleaning materials.

While it's true that the workers there are responsible for losing their own jobs because they spoke up, it's a difficult choice to make when your business isn't following guidelines properly.

My cousin I live with is a brick layer, so he works on construction jobs. His job has safety meetings every morning to go over the job and what's going on. They hold it in a small cramped trailer with 20 people for 45 minutes. 15-20 minutes of that was just a dumb morale boosting thing where the presenter tells "fun facts" as a way to keep things friendly. They were always doing that so they kept doing it now.

They were still doing this last week. They didn't think they should stop doing this, even though my cousin and others were complaining that they aren't supposed to be in close quarters like this. The boss gave people shit and said if they don't like it they can get the fuck out.

So if you are a worker and you KNOW your business is practicing very unsafe standards, what do you do? Keep quiet and keep standing in a trailer with 20 people shoulder to shoulder every day?

Then he came down with corona like symptoms on Thursday and is now out of work anyways. I had to report this to my boss so now I'm isolated for two weeks working from home to see if I develope symptoms. And my brother, a pharmacist, must now also isolate for two weeks.

So what do you do when your work place is not following proper guidelines on social distancing and keeping things safe for everyone? Do you keep quiet because if you don't your job might shut down?

It is sort of unsafe to not have those safety meetings either. They are to let you know what is wrong and what to avoid.
