Other than some of the goofiness involving Selina Kyle, I imagine I'm going to enjoy Gotham. The first episode was surprisingly good for a pilot, and it revealed/teased quite a few villains (although, other than Ivy, I knew they'd be in the show. Ivy was certainly a surprise, though, especially since they cast a kid to play her. Looking ahead (because I couldn't help myself), I learned that the role is recast with an older actress and it seems like she'll have her plant powers, which seems like it'll be out of place in this seemingly gritty interpretation. It's understandable in the comics because they're in a universe that not only has superpowered humans, but they visit Gotham at times, but this is a different continuity)

The one thing that kinda throws me is how anachronistic the show looks. Everybody is dressed like it's a period piece and yet people have cell phones.

Anyone watch that "Parasite" anime? Pretty interesting stuff.

If you mean Parasyte, yes, I finished watching it. The first episode was a bit rocky and the penultimate episode really drags, but otherwise it was a solid adaptation of a great manga.

I would argue it was bad from the start.

Right out of the gate it's "we said Oswald Cobblepot, *wink wink*, *nudge, nudge*. GET IT? WE SAID OSWALD COBBLEPOT". "Edward Nygma. DID YOU HEAR ME SAY EDWARD NYGMA?" I gave up after 4 or 5 episodes because it tried so hard to beat you over the head repeatedly with references that I got the first time.

tbh, if not for who the characters are, I'd find the characterizations annoying as hell. But Nygma's quirks are enjoyable within that context . Cobblepot's behavior suddenly becomes intriguing.

And the stupid name drops make the characters more exciting. If "Victor" was just anybody, it'd be hard to care. And then you have a crazy finance CEO where, at face value, the story is passable, but suddenly it becomes great because it's Sionis. Selina is still a bit annoying regardless, but part of that is just the fact that they had to make her the same age as Bruce (so their exploits seem more than what she should reasonably be capable of) and then the rest is the ridiculous constant posing she does. Instead of just sitting on a couch, for example, they'll have her crouched on top of it.

Otherwise really enjoying the show... although I keep looking stuff up out of curiosity and sometimes wind up spoiling shit. That's kinda the problem when you can look forward, it's hard not to do it (plus there's the usual stuff like being curious about the actors and actresses playing the roles)

It's been so weird watching Gotham and very quickly seeing actors who appeared in the Blacklist, although I guess to some extent that always happens with guys who did a lot of tv work. First it was Clark Middleton (Glen the DMV guy) playing a man whose balloons were stolen in the second episode and now it's Julian Sands (who appears in Blacklist season 5 iirc). Sands I've seen in a lot of stuff (certainly enough to remember his name -- mostly from the Fantasy Island reboot... the tv show, not the movie), but I think I've only ever seen Middleton once because he looks like a guy I'd remember (although supposedly he was in Kill Bill so... meh)

Kinda wonder what kind of a living a less prominent (almost said "smaller") actor like Middleton can eke out. I can't imagine he has huge paydays for most of his work and, while he's had a lot of acting jobs, I kinda wonder if he has another job on the side or something.

Oh, and if we're going with a non-recovery topic name, what about "Geekham Asylum; We're all mad here, but not angry"

The dumbest thing I saw today was a bunch of idiots in North Carolina going to gatherings and parties to intentionally get Covid. Because they didn't believe that covid actually exist.

Then Warner Brothers decided to give Zach Snyder 30 million dollars to finish and release the Snyder cut of Justice League streaming on HBOMAX next year.

I'm going to repeat what I said to Bank Robber earlier today, "Justice League was barely above trash, and this Director's cut is going to be trash adjacent."

I'll say the same thing I said in the other topic someone made about this:

"Synder's 90% of the problem with DC's movies. Adding more of him to one is the opposite of what I'd ever want."

"I can see why people would blame Whedon for the movie being horrible - he's not as great as his rep implies, and I tend to think the first Avengers film was awesome in spite of him rather than because of him. But in this case I don't think we're talking about a scenario where one bad cook came in and ruined the first cook's solid work, as much as one terrible cook absolutely ruined a meal, and then another bad cook came in to try and fix it and wound up making it worse.

It's kind of hard to polish a turd when all you've got to work with is more turd.

Fuck, fuck, fucking fucking fuck fuck, fuck fuck fuck

Lost my tabs again. It's really annoying, but I don't think I had as many significant items in there this time. I think it's been maybe 6-7 months since the last time it happened. This one happened because I was having issues loading something and I restarted my laptop but, despite closing Firefox, it didn't give me the restore session option this time.

In other news, I'm partway through the second season of Gotham. Other than the Galavan siblings, s2 started pretty promisingly even if a lot of changes were rather abrupt. Plus the Galavan siblings are kinda distracting because Theo is as milquetoast white as you can get yet Tabitha is very clearly black. I know that this can happen irl thaks to meme photos (and they could have different mothers or Tabitha could be adopted), but it's still very immersion-killing. Likewise, their hi-jinks break the illusion as well, particularly given their tendency to just get away with kidnapping and torturing influential people with the means to take them down who they release afterward. And most of the season has thus far relied upon their convoluted plans, which includes Theo's awful fake-acting at the charity ball when the character could reasonably be expected to make the act look compelling. Not to mention that when Jerome and the Maniax were on the loose, shit was pretty fun whereas since then it's been fairly dull (other than Firefly and the Penguin's cool gimmick-y assault on the inaugural celebration)

I also wasn't completely on board with how they depicted the Riddler going crazy, although the payoff where the alternate version explains the appeal of leaving clues was neat. Prior to that, I really just enjoyed that he spelled out his name in the letter.... and then got caught afterward.

I haven't seen it yet (other than clips), but I've found that people vastly underrate DC films just as they vastly overrate Marvel films.

Then you chaps come up with a clever sub title, as I'm still in the process of moving, and way too busy and tired to come up with at I string of words that make sense.

Also, Ruby Rose quit as Batwoman and will be recast for season 2. I figured this was coming after she nearly became paralyzed on set and has to work like 15 hour days. That's not for everyone, especially when you're three continents away from your home, and you're working long hours and nearly dying.

Let's see who they recast in the role.

Bridesmaids was an an average film. Maybe I just don't like Kristen Wigg. She is the reason why I'm worried about Wonder Woman 84 being trash. Heck, the first Wonder Woman movie wasn't that great, but it had enough e enjoyable moments to be passable. Now you're adding in buzz kill Wigg, and it could get bad fast.

Anyway, last post. Thanks for keeping the topic going. 12 years strong this July.
