FF14 is generally pretty good about this - if you got a Vulnerability Up or Damage Down debuff, you failed a mechanic. If you took hundreds of thousands of damage and you're not a tank, that's probably a failed mechanic. If you just died because you took multiple hits in the 60-70k range, that's probably intended behavior and you need to heal/mitigate more.

i think an unmitigated double slap does 270k, and we use soil+temperance for the first aoe and live with like 10k hp

The baseline mit to tank Slap clean is Rampart + 15% mit (or TBN) + Feint + Reprisal fwiw

So you want around 55% net damage for slap to have some comfort. Maaaaybe 60% but that's taking your life in your hands.

The buster we're talking about is physical actually

It just straight up oneshots tanks if they don't mitigate it hard. Like, you know how 30% mit is basically enough for every fight to this point? Shiva says fuck that and makes you drop way more to not die. She DOES do a truckload of magic damage too, of course. It's the one fight I feel where popping your 15% mit off CD is less 'nice to have' and more 'required to take significant stress off the healers'.

The real answer to Double Slap is bring a WAR. Holmgang both of them and it's still up for the first Morn Afah at the end, plus you free up all those cooldowns for other purposes.

Well I'm using mine basically exclusively on Ahk Morns and not busters, but we also have WAR/DRK so mitigation on tankbusters is no issue. And not that it isn't still necessary but our healers are just completely godlike anyways.

Only the second boss fight there is weird at all to me and that's really tolerable for a "trash boss" fight. The truly annoying dungeon bosses are far worse than those (Neverreap anyone???).

Doing it with Trust. Feels good being a Paladin shielding my Scions as the world burns. Also they've been really good with bosses.

trusts handle mechanics is a near-perfect way but while they handle mechanics they don't do dps at all

plus they still sometimes get hit when getting casts off

Beat Shiva under the buzzer on monday and stayed up til 4 AM to get the clear today

I feel like I can't even recognize myself in the tank that cleared E4S for the first time at this point. You know how the story fight buff that makes you into the Hulk says 'breaking limits as a warrior of light should'? That applies to my performance since I got into hard content in this game, I think. It took a hell of a lot of work but I feel qualified for anything at this point. Might consider finding a static for Ultimates soon I think.

Interestingly enough, I ended up falling into a sort of 'alliance of free raiders' for e8s. Me and like 20 other people banded together to prog and ended up forming ad-hoc teams to get clears. Really unique stuff, kinda like an IRL adventurer's guild.
