I thought every game in that series after 3 was nonexistent here. Reach hasn't been in a single poll outside of the 'looking forward to' thing every semi-high profile release gets, while Life is Strange got tripled by Fallout 3. Fun fact: Edith Finch has been in six polls and gotten last place in four of them. Berseria could win simply because it's a JRPG on GameFAQs, and Velvet did well enough in the last character battle, but I don't trust Tales games outside of Symphonia, and in the battle of 'which game do I respect more despite having played neither' (which is where most voters will fall), Hollow Knight wins. This is another 1 point match (neither of these beats FF15) so I wouldn't agonize too much over it. Monster Hunter has never been worth much here (MH 4 Ultimate got easily beaten by Suikoden 2, which is...not the strongest game) but World really brought the series into the limelight in a big way. Its 3 Seed is still a gross overestimation of its strength, but World will have a bit of kick to it. Bravely Default is actually pretty decent too. Its status as an early JRPG on the 3DS, and one that filled a collective craving for job systems at the time, meant that a surprising number of people played it. Didn't do too badly in either GotY poll it was in. It's not going to be a particularly strong game by Square standards, but the competition in this contest is not stiff. I'm taking World simply because it's more recent/relevant - just got an expansion! - while Bravely Default's hype has eroded over the years. Bravely Second underwhelmed people and Bravely Default just isn't a game that sticks with you as time goes by, and it wasn't a smash hit in the first place. Expected Result MHW > Bravely Default 55 - 45 -- Division 1, Round 1, Match 6 (6) Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (11) Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/7838-best-of-2019-game-of-the-year https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/5375-best-of-2013-playstation-3 Ni No Kuni's "I almost beat GTA5 in a GotY poll!" is extremely misleading. Absolutely no one gives a crap about that game anymore, and its release hype boiled down to "Studio Ghibli JRPG! Woah!" before everyone collectively allowed themselves to admit the game wasn't very good. Sekiro is from an unpopular genre on GameFAQs and didn't do THAT great in GotY polls, but at least it has fans. One thing to remember about indie games - on GameFAQs and elsewhere - is that they have a glass ceiling they need to break through before they're considered good enough to hang with 'real' games. The world of difference between 'Best Indie Game of the Year' and 'Best Game of the Year' is massive, and any indie game that manages to break that glass ceiling and appear on the list of GotY nominees does so with tremendous effort. Bastion is a highly-regarded indie game, sure, but I don't think it ever broke that glass ceiling. The Walking Dead did. It didn't just appear on GotY nominee lists; it won the most awards that year. Getting doubled by Uncharted 2 isn't great, and the game has undoubtedly weakened over the years, but it still has enough clout to beat Bastion. I'm taking Overwatch because it was strength ceiling is higher than Death Stranding - its constant updates at least keep the game current. Multiplayer FPS isn't a genre we care about but we also don't care about...whatever genre Death Stranding is. If it had been a smash hit, I would take Death Stranding, but it simply didn't meet the expectations of enough people and will be an easy anti-vote target.
