Super may not be perfect, but it still delivered some good moments for a lot of characters and had some good fights. GT kinda shit all over literally anyone who wasnt Goku and maybe Vegeta. Sure the series itself does that a lot, but GT especially took dumps on everyone else. What was probably saddest was they made Pan and Trunks main characters and made both utterly pathetic.

theres some real cool stuff like what shine mentioned, but i cant agree with Super delivering a lot of good character moments. if youre not a pure-blooded saiyan warrior you're fucking worthless. plus they threw any sense of consistency out the window, and produced some of the worst original characters in the series to date. its more or less a slightly less offensive GT to me.

I really can't agree with this statement when we're talking about a show where Master Roshi goes on a hotter winning streak than he ever did even at his peak in Dragon Ball and the actual MVP of the entire show is Android 17.

Easy to knit pick it now but when Super first began and we found out about the other universes the show was always building up to that. The hype was real, did it fulfill it - in some areas maybe not, but I still enjoyed it. And Super made me feel like a kid again waiting for every Saturdays show.

Its not entirely true. I mean yes Super does have a lot of Goku & Vegeta, but it was actual great stuff for Vegeta. Lets not forget that other characters also got decent moments in Super such as Roshi, 18, 17, Future Trunks and a couple others. What did GT do for most of them? Trunks was a huge joke, Goten was basically Yamcha, Krillin got killed AGAIN, Gohan
was a joke and I cant even remember if Piccolo existed at all in GT.

Super definitely couldve done better for some characters, but at least they tried. GT flat out forgot most of them even existed other than giving energy to Goku or becoming possessed by literally the worst named villain in the series Baby

super has good stuff, i just cant get behind roshi, 17, future trunks, etc, when it makes zero narrative sense. 17 was the highlight of the tournament, but hes literally fighting at a super saiyan blue level just cuz its like cool man hes hot and stuff. the villains were garbage (zamasu was some real missed potential) and the characters all felt flatter than ever
just my opinion tho. ill still watch no matter what i love my shirtless screaming aliens

Yeah, power level wise Super is insanely laughable since some characters had no business being anywhere near what Super gave them, but it was entertaining still. I mean the writing was never a strong point in the series to begin with really. I do enjoy Supers slice of life moments where the cast is all just hanging out together. I also forgot to mention that Super had a great Yamcha episode too and that guy hadnt had anything in ages. I mean it was basically just a great episode to laugh at him, but still.

I wouldve liked to see Super deliver some stuff it hyped up and then did literally nothing with. Buu in particular got shafted so fucking hard. Maybe when the anime comes back they can find a way to make up for shitting on him. Itd be nice if they let Goten and Trunks act their age too. Im pretty sure theyre like the same age Future Trunks first was and everyone treats them like theyre 6-8 years old still and they still act like kids too. Theyre such wasted potential lol

Super definitely messes up the whole "power level" scale, but I do think 17 winning the whole thingin the ToP makes a lot of sense because he's very no-nonsense and actually presses any advantage he can get, like interrupting the magical girls transformation. He's much the same vein as future trunks, just a very pragmatic fighter who just tries to win, it's refreshing in a series that doesn't feature that sort of mindset very much.

Yeah I think that's why 17 seems stronger than he should be. He actually uses strategy to fight, plans his attacks and takes advantage of openings. While everyone else is button mashing.

Them having him go toe to toe with SSB Goku didnt really involve any of those things though. Like he absolutely got a ridiculous power buff somehow fighting turbo fodder poachers even Chiaotzu could probably beat

It would've been a lot easier to just say he got some android upgrades of some sort to give him a power boost. I mean it would still be bad writing but that would be a better excuse than fighting weak ass poachers.

The thing I've always read, dunno if it's canon or just a theory, is that SSB allows for perfect ki control and so those pre-TOP bouts with like, 17 and krillin and gohan, are goku holding back rather than actually using the full power of SSB.

There is still no way though, even if that's the case, that 17 should be able to even put a dent in God Toppo or Jiren.

Growth is basically exponential in Dragon Ball (unless you're a human lol) so it's not too crazy to think that Android 17 could increase to SSB levels considering where he started. It's the same thing that happened with Freiza when he actually decided to start training.

Android 17 also has unlimited energy which is a nice skill to have in something like ToP

Well the reason growth is exponential for the most part, imo, is because the main characters are saiyans who have a stated genetic reason why that would be the case, and it's been exhibited front and center throughout the series. That doesn't mean that should be the case for every other non-human. I mean I guess it could be, but to me both 17 and frieza just being like "Suddenly, god level power" just feels kinda like an asspull.

Super just doesn't really follow the rules of Z. Heck even the manga had Roshi dodging freakin Jiren with some weird UI shenanigans.

I guess I don't mind asspulls as much because the alternative is just Goku/Vegeta fighting everyone. I think I'd actually prefer MORE asspulls if it means characters like Tien or Piccolo actually get to fight again.
