My passion and skill is comedy writing, like screenplays, but in order for them to come to life I need either a team of animators/cartoonists or a team of actors/camera crew.

Even though I get pure joy out of writing, it just kinda sits in limbo.

It doesnt really work as a novel.

I mean yeah of course I can get a job working for a TV show, but that would be someone elses vision and direction for characters/material so itd just be a job.

It sucks that I didnt know what my true passion was in my college years so I missed the chance to network and meet likeminded people so we end up creating South Park or Always Sunny.

Maybe youre right, but I just feel like a lot of my stuff is dependent on the visual and live delivery.

Ive kept a notebook on me for 10 years and jot down every amusing thought or reaction I ever have in a given situation, and those go into different groups of bits depending on how much material can be extrapolated from it.

I have a manifesto of material ready to go, its just hard to find a way to harness it.

Animation = unlimited possibilities but insanely expensive and time consuming

Live action = limited to wherever youre able to shoot, whatever actors youre able to use and whatever props you can afford

and get it done

thats what other pros did. You can too

Ive been trying for a while now. It just sucks that I didnt take this seriously until after college so most animators have full plates with their day jobs.

Yeah, we try to keep a topic going but it tends to get neglected and wind up closed.

That im not really ready for. Id rather present something fully finished than a work in progress.

I mostly just have random bits of varying length and detail in a massive notebook since I havent had a way to materialize it.

If I was a creative writer I wouldve definitely wrote some short stories or a novel but I just cant find a way to translate it to written word.

Oh that is my fucking FANTASY dude, absolutely. But I think im much more of a writer than a performer. Like I say funny things, comedians say things funny.

I had toyed with the idea of saying fuck it and trying my luck at an open mic a few years ago but life happened and that didnt.

Thats a whole other walnut to crack since id also have to think about how I want to present the material and who I want to be up there.

I think writing is my sweet spot because I can imagine the types of characters saying my lines.

try getting involved with some community theatre. doing a show like that gets you experience, and helps you learn how to deliver lines yourself. if they do a one-act play festival, you could even submit a couple skits

I mean no lie, it is harder now to get media projects off the ground compared to the past.

Usually the audience these days expects every bell and whistle which can take a toll on a budget.

I wish there was a central hub for animators, artists, actors, camera men, writers, really everyone with a passion for making television/films but are missing the other people needed to make it happen.

There is also the lack of talent to make all this happen, the passion and drive of generations before us were not as distracted and lazy compared to now.

Not saying everyone this generation is lazy (See Castlevania Animation, that is amazing attention to small details which is becoming a lost art right now in Japanese Animations which used to be a thing back in the 90s).

IMO as this is just from my perspective and I can always be wrong on this assumption.

The good thing about an animated project is it can be done entirely online by people who never have to actually meet up in person.

Really if I was able to bring just one thing to life in a single project it would be my crowning achievement. More than any bullshit benchmark ive hit for other people (school, job, house, relationship).
