(There is no parenting forum)

So I know some of you are parents.. any tips?

Mason is three and I firmly believe it is time.. the pull ups are on, and ive been asking if he has to go potty every fifteen minutes ..

And i bought him the potty that looks like a real toilet and even makes flushing noises.

Theres tons of parenting forums. But I can understand why youre posting on here... at least GameFAQS has way less trolls than any parenting forum.

Btw, that was a serious statement.

I dont want to have to find a new site to join, Ive been on here a long time, and gamefaqs has the layout imo.

Take him in the bathroom with you when you go and show him how you use the toilet. Talk him through the process. Tell him "mom and dad don't wear diapers... we have big boy underwear because we use the potty" etc. Have him sit on the potty to try it out. If he doesn't go, fine. Let him get up and play or whatever. Stop him every so often throughout the day and make him sit on the potty. When he does go, make a really big deal out of it "HOORAY!!! YAAAY!!! GREAT JOB GOING POTTY!! HIGH FIVE!!!" etc etc.

On top of stopping him frequently to go, ask him from time to time if he feels like he needs to go. If he answers yes, take him. Don't hurry him, and if he doesn't go, don't pressure him. Just say, "that's okay, we can try again later". Consistency is key. He'll get it eventually. He'll have accidents or possibly regress (my potty trained daughter wet the bed twice this week), it's important not to get upset. Stay calm, say reassuring things "it's okay, sometimes we have accidents, let's get you cleaned up"

Just keep at it. Could take months, could take a year, or more. Patience and consistency is the best thing for this

You can try treats if you get desparate, but it should be a last resort. My son wouldn't poop on the toilet for the longest time, but he didn't want to go in his diaper, either. We used chocolate to bribe him. Sometimes he'd hold it for days then have a really difficult movement, which made him scared to go. I literally had to play coach and cheerleader and hold his hands while he sat on the toilet and pushed out this monster turd "c'mon buddy, you can do it! Just let it out! It's okay!" He was so afraid and uncomfortable but he finally did it and we had chocolate :) eventually he got it down

Just have him sit on the toilet. If he goes give him tons of praise and maybe some candy or something.
If he refuses don't reinforce any behaviors like crying or whining. And give bigger and better praise for going.

Start slow though, just have him sit bare ass on the toilet for a bit. Work up to actively peeing. If he does tell you he has to pee, even if it's in the pull up, have him produce in the bathroom. You want the act of voiding to be associated with that room and the toilet.

As others have said just put him on the bog when you're using the bathroom and tell him that's what grown ups do. Makes kids feel important when they do grown up things.

Let him walk around without the pull up on.. keep a very close eye on him and keep the potty nearby

As soon as he starts peeing, place him on the potty, eventually he'll get used to the idea of where he needs to go when it's time

It's worked a few times with my 3 year old, we would have the process down if I had a little more time with him
