Sorry, no JJ Abrams films.

I would have included the Abrams films if the poll could have more than 10 options. Oh well. No one probably like those films anyway.

Which is your favourite classic Star Trek film and why do like it the most?

The Voyage Home is a classic but The Undiscovered Country is my favourite since it's the best send off to the OG series while all the TNG movies are hot garbage though the first two are passable at least and I've always liked Generations over space zombies the movie.

As far as I'm concerned, the TNG movies are set in an alternate reality.

semi-recently watched through the originals, except the first, and was pleasantly surprised that Wrath of Khan lived up to its reputation. really great movie, worth watching many times. the others are all more or less good too (except the first), especially The Voyage Home and The Undiscovered Country.

I'm torn between Voyage Home and Undiscovered Country. Gonna have to go with Voyage Home I'd say.

For me it's really a tie between "The Wrath of Khan" (because of Ricardo Montalban/storyline), "The Voyage Home" , and "The Undiscovered Country". I am an admitted Shatner fan as well so there's that. He was a major driving force behind all 3 films. I also admit to openly tearing up at the death scene of Spock in the theatre, and still do a little when I re-watch it. I voted "Wrath of Khan".

The Final Frontier is up next in my revisiting of the classic Star Trek films.

What are the issues most people have with this film?
I thought a rogue Vulcan being the main villain who wanted to find God was an interesting idea.

"What does God need with a Starship?" Pretty much sums up the entire movie in a pre-Q trek universe.

The Voyage Home has always been the most entertaining for me. The Wrath of Khan is good too but very slightly overrated. A close 3rd is The Undiscovered Country.

IMO (order)

The Undiscovered Country
First Contact
The Voyage Home
The Wrath of Khan
The Search for Spock
The Final Frontier
Nemesis
Generations
The Motion Picture
Insurrection

I have not seen Insurrection / The Final Frontier / Generations recently. The Final Frontier is higher than Nemesis only because it has two good scenes in it (What does God need with a Starship, Campfire Scene). Nemesis' only saving grace is the battle with the Scimitar. It also provides a lot of back story for PIC, specifically around why Romulans trusted him leading to the events of the Hobus Incident (and why Picard's fall from grace is so heavy). TMP is a good film, just aged horribly.

TUC is the best because it
  1. Creates the Klingons as the species as they are today.
  2. Takes place around the Khitomer Accords, one of the most important events in television canon.
  3. Shakespeare is best in the original Klingon.
  4. The entire last several scenes are the epitome of Star Trek
  5. Provide the best possible conclusion of Kirk's story. (Generation's shouldn't exist).
  6. Is an allegory for real life events, during the a time in which those events were happening.
At a glance, it's hard to place The Voyage Home above The Wrath of Khan. They are totally different movies. I'd say they are at about the same level with thee amount of memorable scenes each one has.

Short version, it's a McGuffin.

Slightly longer version, this 6ish minute video might provide a little more context.
