She did at one point lose the powers she got from Ms. Marvel, but that was unrelated to Ms. Marvel waking up. Ms. Marvel actually woke up (in comics) before Rogue ever joined the X-Men. Carol was only in a "coma" for a single issue, though. The same comic where Rogue stole her powers, Carol woke up in the end. She was left powerless, though. The point of that story (and the one immediately before it) was basically to get rid of Carol as a character because the editor-in-chief/Avengers writer at the time didn't like the character. So yes, Rogue was originally like Rogue in the X-Men movies (with just the power-drain power), and has only had the power to fly around with super strength because of what she stole from Carol. Chris Claremont (the X-Men writer) later brought Carol back by having something give her new powers (at which point she started calling herself Binary), and then later Avengers writers sort of reverted her back to her original version (but with the name Warbird, because by then they felt like Ms. Marvel was too chauvinistic). They eventually changed Carol's name to Captain Marvel because they need to keep putting out comic books called "Captain Marvel" to retain the trademark (which is why there've been like seven different Captain Marvels over the last 40 years), and because it gave them a chance to reuse the Ms. Marvel name for a different character.
