This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Other than that, uh. Well he was a bit player in Superfriends, one of the main seven in the DCAU Justice League, has been around in comics forever, and shows up in some DC-related video games. Do I expect gamefaqs to care at all about him specifically? Nope. He'd probably be one of the better low fodders thanks to name recognition but I think I'd take GTA mains, Arthas, or Thrall over him. Maybe Guybrush or CATS.

Minnie Mouse (Disney) - Low fodder

Without Kingdom Hearts I'd be real skeptical about the "Mickeyverse" Disney characters having much strength here. Mickey, Donald, and Goofy would each still have a little going for them, but Minnie Mouse I don't think would have any real appeal. She doesn't actually seem at all important in Kingdom Hearts either so Axel would beat her without difficulty.

Oliver (Ni no Kuni) - Low fodder

I think his game has a pretty good chance of not even making the contest.

I say Mid Fodder for GL and Minnie, mostly because they're such well-known characters.

All the incarnations of Lantern have a very consistent design and the power ring. GL is a favorite of some purely due to the creative power potential that the ring provides its wearer. The Justice League GL is quite popular too, and I imagine some memes from the Green Lantern movie will find their way to the boards if he appeared in a contest match.

Minnie is obviously no Mickey, but she's been in a lot of classic Disney platformers and does have sizable roles in several KH games.

Agree with Low Fodder for Oliver. I think his game makes GOTD but the lead character still won't be worth much.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Johnny. I think he always should have been mid, but he was rated very early on when the tiers weren't strongly established.

Green Lantern: Low Fodder - I know this isn't really consistent with my previous DC votes, but at least GameFAQs has some reason to care about most of those characters.

Minnie: Low Fodder - She should be to Mickey as Ms. Pac-Man is to Pac-Man, and despite where we ranked Mickey a long time ago, I would think he's the quintessential Fodder Line character.

Oliver: Mid Fodder - To start with, his 2013 match looks better than you'd expect considering Leon failed to SFF Wesker at all there (presumably because RE fans all voted for Wesker knowing Leon would win). If you just take his percentage on 2013 Leon and assume his strength hasn't changed much since (thanks to Ni no Kuni II and the HD versions of the original), he's firmly Mid Fodder. That match did provide highly favorable circumstances for him, true, but I think he can make Mid Fodder based on it, and as the clear main character of his surprisingly popular game on JRPGFAQs.

Johnny Cage: Mid Fodder

Nominate Mickey Mouse for re-ranking; with KH far from its peak, his video gaming legacy shouldn't draw in as many votes as Pac-Man's, and I can't see more people voting for him simply because he's marginally more iconic in GameFAQs circles.
