"UPDATED, Saturday AM final: After a string of pricey duds with Gemini Man, Terminator: Dark Fate, and Rhythm Section, Paramount gets back on track with its net $87M production of Sonic the Hedgehog. The film could potentially score the best video game feature adaptation debut of all-time, with a 3-day of $53.99M and 4-day of $64.3M, according to industry estimates this morning.
Anything over $54.3M in 3-days beats the previous record set by Legendary/Warner Bros. Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. On a 4-day basis, Sonic does beat Detective Pikachu as the best start for a video game feature, the former pic earning $58M over a non-holiday period last May. Paramount is seeing on their end a $50M 3-day and $60M 4-day for Sonic which is still great" --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

There are so many kids who were so excited for this movie when I went to see it. It kind of lit my heart up with joy since Sonic was my favorite thing as a kid.
That said, the moving was pretty outstanding and I felt like they managed to make it fun and seemed to really care about the series. It's amazing to me that with so much care put into every aspect of this movie that we ended up with the awful original design in the first place, likely because some idiot exec wanted forced him to look more like a human-hedgehog freakshow. You could tell they played it safe with things, but I think with the next movie they're willing to get really weird with it due to the two credits scenes. I'm excited to see what they do with a sequel since I'm sure after the original design fiasco they're just going to let them do whatever. --- Check out my entertainment blog!: www.heroicbiz.com I discuss video games, comics, movies, and TV! ... 90s movie describes it quite well.
it's clearly meant for kids but there's definitely enough hits for adults familiar with the series to get a few notable references. it's really well done. don't set your expectations too high mind you but it's definitely enjoyable, which is way better than initial expectations of "live action Sonic movie" were. --- "Maybe it's a tentacle, molesting the planet itself. - Aschen Brodel. ... Jim Carrey did outstanding in his role and you could tell he was just having a really fun time. At the end of the movie, he goes full on Jim Carrey and it's probably one of the best parts. In the sequel you can tell he's just going to unleash entirely and that's just going to be AMAZING.
