I found the breakup platforming to be abnormally obnoxious - despite the game actually having speed gates to time travel being apropos to sonic's abilities.

If you consider Sonic 2 and 3 to be among the best Sonics, then I'd say Sonic CD is the perfect sequel to Sonic 1... it has all the best and worst aspects of Sonic 1 so if you are a Sonic 1 purist then I can legitimately see liking Sonic CD a lot.

SEGA CD in general was a gimmicky piece of crap. It was definitely trying to be ahead of its time though, so Ill give it credit for that. But man it aged horribly

Impressive. Except if you had known what you were looking for, you would've seen it written on my dorm room window

Great soundtrack but not particularly fun to play

I disagree. Yeah it had some awful games of the time but it has some great RPGs, adventure games and shooters. Some of its enhanced games were pretty choice as well.
It just lost support quickly leading to a small library. The number of gems is there though.
What were those movie games called...those of course blew.

I have to admit Im madly in love with the Lunar RPGs but Ive always associated them with PlayStation since thats where I played them, but they were on SEGA CD first. Those games were awesome

The Sonic Kart Racing games are pretty good.
I've 100%'d all three of them. Transformed is probably my favourite with Team in second.

The only good things about Sonic CD are the soundtrack, and the two clips of animation.

Otherwise it is a gimmicky piece of crap.

Game is actually bad.

>Level design poo like its some ROM hack of Sonic 1
>And good luck trying to build up enough speed to travel through time in this poo level design
>Lol Wacky Workbench
>Exploring to find robot generators isnt fun at all.
>Special stages suck as usual

Should have just had a more straightforward level design like the main Genesis games. As for the time travel shenanigans, make Act 1 past, Act 2 present and depending on if you cleared the zone's special stage with the Time Stone, Act 3 is either the Good Future or Bad Future

Probably the worst of the original-era 2D sidescrollers, aside from the Game Gear/Master System games.

Better than Sonic 1 but it is kinda gimmicky and the level design, while interesting, can be frustrating.

Sonic 2 and 3 and Knuckles are better.

Also Advance 3

One of the best

People knocked the level design but praised the official fan remake that didn't change much, go figure

I wonder why Sega didn't include CD in the Mega Collection Plus.

I missed out playing it as a kid because I didn't have the Sega CD.

Then I missed out as a teenager when they packaged into Gems collection and didn't release the PS2 version in the U.S.

I think it was licensing issues for the music or something.

I'm torn about it. There are aspects I like and the race is one of my favorites albeit tough, but it's too frustrating to master the main aspect of time travel.

Sonic CD is average and slow compared to Sonic 2 and the US soundtrack sucks balls.

For the US soundtrack yes, but the JPN soundtrack could have easily been used for Mega Collection

Naka tried to say that there wasnt enough space on the GameCube disc to include CD with all the other games, but IIRC he was proven wrong. I guess Naka just wanted to include only Genesis games. Yeah CD really should have been in the first Mega Collection; it really didn't warrant Gems Collection's existence.

Mega Collection Plus had Game Gear games, so it wasn't like they were forced to only use games in the Genesis line

I believe it also had comic book scans and a few other genesis games as well.

I haven't played my PS2 copy in years so I don't remember much.
