Blogfaqs. I grew up in BC and I don't like it anymore. Low salaries, high cost of living, depressing weather, fairly lonely feeling. Really the only advantage is that my family is here. Don't know where else I could go to though. I was thinking Montreal since it's cheap and the culture seems very different but I'd have to improve my French quite a bit, which could be a struggle early on. Toronto is too American, Ottawa is too Canadian, Calgary is Calgary. I feel trapped and I don't like it.

Only solution is to come to America and then after staying here awhile all those other choices will look great!!

Well I thought about Seattle or Portland since they're pretty close. But yeah, America.

That was pretty great. I've been to Regina once. This is more interesting than anything in that city.

I'm surprised salaries are low. Generally higher cost of living means higher salary (though usually not enough to make up the difference).

In Canada I've lived in Calgary, Edmonton, Lloydminster, and Regina. I like Regina, as I was born and raised here, all my family is here, and it's not a super big city. But job opportunities aren't great. This is definitely a government city.

Edmonton was much better than Calgary. Less staunchly conservative, general younger vibe to the city. But it was really hectic compared to what I was used to, especially since I lived downtown. So much hustle and bustle.

Montreal could be tricky. You really do need to know French from what people who live there tell me. You just get treated a lot differently (and not in a better way) if you don't. It's supposedly a beautiful place to live though.

Don't go to Toronto, you'll just have all the same issues in a different city.

Also, Regina is permanently on strike right now. Crown corps were on strike a few months ago. Refinery workers are currently locked out (and have been for over 2 months now). I believe the Teacher's are currently threatening job action as well.

Salaries - I don't know, I have no point of reference from other provinces.

Cost of living - Ya, that can suck. I am just glad it's not a problem for me.

Weather - I always hear how every other major city is frozen. It makes me happy we only got like 5 days of snow.

Lonely - hmmmm, there's way too many cars on the road.

I guess try Edmonton or something.

Honestly Dublin Ireland looks really good to me, but i'm to old/tired/depressed to go through moving to another country at this point.

That being said the weather there is about perfect for me (love rain, and don't mind cold but hate temps over 100), I have always found Irish women extremely hot (even if I'm to old at this point, you probably are not), the food there is amazing, and it's still green with nature around if you want it.

Your also close enough to travel/vacation all throughout europe if you want easily.

If I was 15 years younger, that is where I would move.

And also the protests about a pipeline, both here and in Saskatoon. There's lots going on.
