I've test driven the S, 3, and the X. Amazing experience. I never had much interest in cars at all until I test drove the Model S. I just ordered a Model S a couple weeks ago... Should have it within the next 6 weeks, I think.

Nice. I'm interested in a 3 but haven't tried to testdrive one yet. Not sure if I can really afford one

I've just been saving up for the S for a while and I'm now comfortable with the amount I'd need to finance. No way in hell would I want to get an auto loan for the entire cost.

My car will be paid off late this year or early next year. I plan on saving for about another year after that and buying a Model 3...or a used S.

Right now with trading in my car, I'll be putting about $28k down, but my goal over the the next few weeks until I get the car is to save as much at I can to put even more down.

The Model S is my dream car and I'm going after it. Even if you can't afford it and you really want to get a Tesla, what you have to do is focus on saving money little by little.

Having money saved up removes a lot of stress, first and foremost. Then you just keep saving until you can comfortably afford the monthly payments, factoring in car insurance and any subscription fees that you would be taking on. Ideally you do it when you can comfortably pay all the monthly fees AND save money at the same time.

You order a brand new one? Or one of the used ones on their website? Six weeks seems quick for a new one

Thing is, I've never had a car payment in my life. So the idea of having one is hard to get past. I could probably put down at least 20k on a model 3 and comfortably afford the payments. I just don't like the idea of a car payment though.

Are you going for the auto pilot option?

Brand new. The existing inventory didn't have the configuration I wanted, so they're gonna have to make it. If I'm gonna pay this much for a car, I'm gonna get exactly what I want. The total order time frame was quoted as 8 weeks, and I'm 2.5 weeks in.

Badass.

The autopilot tech is in every car and Tesla just needs to basically flip a switch on their end for it to work in your car once you pay for it, right?

I'm currently not interested in it but maybe a few years down the line I would consider it, if it is indeed just some paid DLC

Yeah, if you get it after the fact, the hardware is still there. It's just a software thing. Not sure if the car needs to download anything for it, but either way it can be added on after the fact easily.

Its ideal for people with garages, but there are tons of super charging stations available as well.

I have a vendor that I work with frequently. Went to lunch with him once and he always goes to a particular Panera for lunch cause a charging station is right beside it. Lol

Riding in his Tesla was like riding on a cloud. Smoothest ride I've ever experienced.

I was reading about battery degradation and was pleasantly surprised to see they lasted longer than I thought. It pointed out that fast charging was one of two things that really accelerated degradation.

I sat in one in the local store.

If I were a tech bro making 100k I'd def get one but I'm poor

My apartment even has like 2 dozen free charging spots in the garage

They are no joke about 1 out of every 10 cars around here

I think tesla guarantees holding 70% for 8 years/100k miles.
Article seems to claim that most batteries should last for life of the car. Which is good because they'd be expensive to replace

Right now, Tesla is offering free supercharging for the life of the car for the S and the X. The Model 3 doesn't get that deal, but from what I've read it's about $11 to $13 to charge from empty to full at a supercharger.

However, my friend has a different electric vehicle and she says she just pays the City of Austin like $25 every 6 months to use public chargers.

Primarily, a Tesla service center. Tesla can also send a mobile tech to you for most things. I think the main thing the mobile techs can't do is handle problems with paint. The other option is a 3rd party service center that's licensed to work on Tesla vehicles.
