It's my favourite game of all time, but I can't just play it whenever.

Been a long enough time that I can "re-experience" it as much as I will ever be able to. I am excite.

Playing the PS4 version and I don't particularly like the design changes. Doubt in the future I will play anything other than emulations of the original PSone version.

This isn't really a playthrough topic as I don't think I'll play it often enough to keep it alive. Just wanted everyone to know that 9 is the best one in my eight-year-old memory.

Can I hug Vivi please? He's so cute and so sad.

They've updated the character models, to have more detail, but the environment they exist in is fairly low res so there's a weird and unnecessary contrast there. Also the updated facial renders make it clear how there is no proper reaction to anything in the conversations where you couldn't really make that out before. It gives the characters a doll-like feel.

Also the menus from the original game are completely redone. Both the in-battle one and and the general menu. The old one had some artistry to how they looked. These new ones are just ugly. Particularly the font. It's just generic times new roman or something similar. Looks like some mobile shit. Functionality is clearly put above artistry and its stripped of the personality that used to be there. Looks entirely clinical.

I'm unsure who my exact team to should be. I really like Garnet, Vivi, Steiner and Quina, but I can only take three of them. I love Freya as a character too, but for reasons I can't explain she doesn't really appeal to me as a team member. Obviously this only applies when the story gives me the choice.

Also I dont remember, is there any way the game gets harder if you don't level your team more or less equally?

Nope enemy levels dont scale, be it random encounters or boss fights.

Replayed it on PS4 about 6 months ago and really enjoyed the replay. It had been a long time since I'd last gone through the whole thing. Speeding up battles made it much more barrable.

The concept of an airship gate kind of defies all logic to me. Especially with how it was presented. Why can't people just fly above it? I assume they have some defenses, but then... fly above the mountains a bit to the side of it?

Also the black waltzes are great and iconic, but I wish they weren't done away with so early in the story. You practically fight No. 2 and 3 back to back and No. 1 wasn't much before that. They could have been spinkled in over a longer part of the story.

what would be the point of a 9-2, the game literally wraps everything up perfectly in the end

The PS4 port wasn't bothering me at all. Definitely more pros than cons. Anything to not play the slow ass battle system in normal speed

I haven't even used the sped up ability yet due to how cumbersome it is to activate. On FF7 or 8 or whatever you just had to press a button. Here you have to pause the game, then press a button, then unpause the game, and if you want to turn it off again, you have to do the same. It's mindbogglingly dumb. if I were to use it it would be a quick thing where I turn it on when entering a battle and then immediately switch it off again after.

The battle system really is slow, though. Not as slow as my brain remembered, but I guess that's the brain making something more extreme to keep the memory from fading. I don't understand how it shipped this way. Was there a technical reason it had to be this slow or did they just think it was a smart choice?

Definitely agree. A case of getting it right the first time and then fucking it up for some reason

I believe the mist is just less concentrated at higher altitudes. Air also becomes thinner up there.

I imagine they ran it at 15 FPS because they weren't able to get much more out of the Playstation.

in ff7 and 8 they also had an an invincible mode that let you use your limit break all the time
ff9 has that as well but everyone glowing all the time just looks weird but at least it makes trance more viable if used sparingly
