10's > 90's > 00's > 80's

The 10's were just really solid all around - it was like a mashup of all the best ideas of the 90's and 00's combined.

I do prefer the 90's over the 00's though. The period between like 2005-2009 was just kind of a dark period for me, there weren't that many games during those years that I loved. The 90's were crazy and innovative and fun.

I love some 80's games but the decade suffers from not really hitting its stride until 1987, and also the fact that a lot of the best NES games just barely backslid into the 90's. My FAVORITE 80's games beat my FAVORITE 00's games but there's more going on in the 00's overall.

00s > 90s > 10s > 80s

I think the the leap in technical advancements at the dawn of the 6th Gen really jumpstarted a period of creativity in gameplay, storytelling, & genre experimentation that continued well into the 7th gen, that I think has been pretty unmatched since.

90s are no slouch either, especially with all the interesting titles constantly coming out on PC at the time. Plus, I just love the aesthetic of blocky PS1/N64 graphics that give those games an undeniably unique charm that makes them a joy to play even if some of the gameplay aspects have been improved since.

The 10s have for sure seen some quality titles but at the same time a lot of the biggest games can tend to feel homogenized. The explosion of the indie scene does make a great case for this decade, however with so many throwback titles, to the 90s in particular, it almost makes the case for me that the 90s do deserve to be higher.

And the 80s were just a mess, but I always find it interesting tracing back genres to the very, very 1st roots and seeing how it has evolved over time. Once again, the PC scene at the time definitely deserves a second glance and serves as a welcome retreat from a lot of NES shovelware.

My tastes skew old-school, and toward Nintendo and Sega in particular. The 2000s were a dark time. >__>

pretty much this.

The 10's has great examples of genres that didn't even really exist before it (Factorio, Kerbal Space Program, even Minecraft mod packs), creative innovations (Necrodancer), and a ton of indies doing whatever they want.

While the 00's probably have my favorite games in a few genre, a lot of the decade was nothing to me (possibly because of age), so I'd give the 90's the edge for being the decade that codified so much of what we knew of games.

80's is lol
