I've watched most of the Classic Series and up Orphan 55.
Orphan 55 was so bad that it completely killed the motivation for me to watch this series anymore.
I am not joking.

That's nuts, I didn't realize the new who series started airing in 2005. I think I first watched it in like 2011 or 2012 or something, and stopped during matt smith's run. I did go back and watch some episodes of each of the classic doctors before deciding I had enough.

Your loss, every season since the start of the revival had at least one low point. Episode 4 was a lot better.

I had to look up when I stopped watching because I couldn't believe the show has been on for 15 years.

I stopped watching little over 4 years ago. That doesn't seem possible. But the episode "Sleep No More" aired November 2015

The continuation of how awful Series 11 and Series 12 have been. I'm more annoyed to what they did to The Master after Skyfall, and what they're doing to the main plot, killing character development because the showrunner changed.
And Orphan 55 was purposefully annoying, the characters of the week were insufferable, even more insufferable than the current companions.

From what I've seen in reviews of episodes from series 10 and what I've heard about series 11 the show is just barely involves the character of The Doctor. The Doctor is more like a plot device to bring the companion(s) to a situation. With Clara and Bill The Doctor was more like their companion as they went on adventures. From what I hear about series 12 The Doctor may well not even be a character and a group of random people just have access to a TARDIS for no reason.

Dude, it got really bad. This series' main plot point? The Master decided to destroy Gallifrey because he found out some "secret knowledge about the universe". No I am not fucking kidding.

I stopped watching the show a few seasons back, and I'd been watching since 1983 or so. And have every single serial that still exists from the original series on DVD.

Moffat as showrunner really ground the show into the dirt, and the hope was that things would improve under Chibnall, but if anything they've gotten worse.

At this point I'm not even sure a new showrunner who wound up being completely awesome could salvage things.

The Irony is that the TARDIS would have told The Doctor where they were the entire time It was a post-apocalyptic earth.

Ehh, I can almost forgive that because this isn't the first time they've done that plot point:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mysterious_Planet

...but at least in that case, they at least tried to justify it by implying the planet (and the entire solar system) had been moved out of its natural orbit and relocated somewhere else.

Though that's also an implicit negative of its own - it's indicative that they're so lacking in ideas that they're going back to the old series to steal premises. And it's not even like this is the first time Doctor Who has done a bit of an anvilicious "Hey, if you don't stop polluting the future is going to suck" moral, since they did that in the last season of the original show ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Curse_of_Fenric ), so they aren't even being original with that.

No idea. It's sounds the writing for the show has gotten so bad that she's not allowed to be The Doctor. From her comments in interviews it sounds like she doesn't like the character anyway. So maybe it's better that she's The Doctor in the credits only and not portraying the character on screen.

For anyone who decided to drop the show over Orphan 55, I suggest giving tonight's episode a chance. While Orphan 55 will most likely be the worst episode of this season, tonight's episode is most probably to be the best, or perhaps the set-up for the best.

I was just looking through Capaldi's IMDB page wondering in how many of those roles I can imagine him as The Doctor and it would still make a better episode of Doctor Who than "Kill The Moon".

Some random thoughts.
1) How does this fit in with the Great and Bountiful Human Empire that The Doctor has visited numerous times?
B) The description of the episode points out that it was a potential future. But "The Angels Take Manhattan" insists that once a future event is witnessed it becomes a fixed point.
Apple) How is this not an existential crisis for the companions? They were just there but it still might not occur. Are they from the potential future for an earlier point in time? Could they just suddenly not happen if time shifts?
