I'm downloading a free trial now. I haven't played any MMOs since a few years ago when SWTOR decided to give up on actual group content. I don't know if I really have the time these days to play one, but I might as well give it a shot and see if it hooks me.

My biggest gripe is that I don't really like the FF aesthetic but I'll see what can be done in character customization.

Try to get into Gilgamesh if you can. Or at least, Aether data center. Also, Viera and Hrothgar can't wear most headgear(aesthetically anyway, stats still apply) because reasons. So keep that in mind when designing your character.

Undecided if I will be a waifu or husbando yet. I usually like to main a dude and then have some alternate chicks but my understanding is this game encourages you to have just one character.

Yeah you can level every class and profession on one character. Alts aren't really required unless you want to do like ridiculous crafting stuff lol

I still need a bunch of Solutions, aethersand, and other mats. Having the Folklore done is nice and all, but I wish I could have put those scrips towards other things, like the insane number of materia I need.

Character creation allowable worlds shifts every few minutes, during shadowbringers launch it was really hard to get into most worlds but if you were super vigilant and checked in the middle of the night you could usually get the world you wanted.

Yeah the game does take a while to really get going. It doles out things slowly to make sure you really understand what's going on.

Gilgamesh server, when it opens ever, tends to do so at around 7am Eastern (4 Pacific), because of how high-traffic it is. You'd have to bounce on it at that time, though, because the gil-farming bots also hit the character creator when they are able.

As for the running around town thing. I am hoping it's one of the things they fix in 5.3 when the ARR main scenario is tweaked. Like, "Yes, I know I'm new here. Let me wander about and do my thing until I'm ready to do what you need me to do. Thanks!"

particular servers don't matter all that much these days anyway since you can visit other worlds in your data center

gilgamesh is in the aether data center so you can choose anything in that one. i'm on jenova and play with gilg friends all the time

Yeah, this. They've been pretty good in recent years about breaking down walls between servers, but still keeping them as their own individual entities. I have a feeling, though nothing has been stated publicly about this, that they may attempt to do cross data center features. And I think Yoshi has even said one of his goals is to make it no matter where you are in the world, you can play with anyone you want.

My connection is doing well today. I can hope rng is behaving as well, but what are the odds we'll be doing Byakko tonight? I seriously just need that doggo so I can finish off my need for doggo farming. Likewise, I need to get my fourth Floor 100 clear of HoH so I can get that necklace and horse mount from there; the former would complete my crafting glam.

Sorry Entity. If it makes you feel better, in 10 runs we didn't get a single dog. lol It was a really hard call too. Because no matter what I chose to do, I was going to piss off somebody, so I just made a decision.

I joined a random Byakko farm. It lasted four whole runs, during which time the dps felt a little low. Two doggos dropped, and I got neither of them, so I'm at 33 totems. Please, game, don't let this be a repeat of Bismarck or Zurvan...

Got my first doggo, had an amazingly lucky time with Lakshmi, it only took 13 runs for the whole party to get one.

So the crafting macro I have for making facet gear kicks ass. I don't need hq mats at all as long as I use food to fill that last 12 cp I'm missing from overmelds on the tools (HQ Matcha more than takes care of that).

I'm going to have to pick up the pace a bit if I want those jobs to 80 before the servers go down for maintenance. Drk, Pld, and Gnb are all 74, and Nin is still there, albeit 970k from 75. Either way, Blm and Mch will have to wait until things slow down again in 5.2. Neither should take long, especially since another beast tribe should be coming out.

Though we haven't seen or heard much of anything about a second ShB tribe thus far, I don't think? o_O

Though, really, I mainly need some materials and materia for my gatherers' facet gear. The materials can totally be normal quality since I can HQ the gear with a macro and some cunning syrup. If I had enough Cunning V materia for my crafting tools, all sixteen of them (so 352-ish materia), I could just do those macros without the syrup even. lol... damn overmeld chances.

Pld, Gnb, and Nin are all 75. Drk is 75 along with the second half of my Trust NPCs. This coming week will be very "Do or die" for preparing for the patch. There's leveling as much as I can, but there's also making and melding my gathering gear, and maybe a supply of Blood Bouillabaise HQ so making the i480 gear will be a smidge easier than the Matcha HQ.

And by a smidge, I mean I doubt the difference in Control will even save me a Touch step at all. xD

I made my gathering facet gear last night and melded all but the last slot of the Min and Btn tools. I'm not worrying about the Fsh rod until the 5.3 set comes out, though I will probably be making a couple Lignum Vitae rods for my character and her retainer at some point. Maybe also the leftside gear with some mid-tier Guerdon materia just so that retainer can keep on going out to do whatever Venture.

So yeah, doing the math, I may need 89-ish Guerdon VIIs (I have 45) and 352-ish Cunning Vs (I have 60) in order to finish the overmelds for all those classes. By the time I get those, I might as well save them and more for the 5.3 set.

Gnb, Pld, and Dnc are 77 now. Drk and the second half of my Trust NPCs are 78. I'm looking at two more runs of Mal's Well and three of Mt. Gulg to finish them, but not having rested exp kinda hurts the Drk in this venture, which is why I'm putting another day's worth of Pixie dailies on that job rather than on Nin.

It's sort of palpable how close I am to that Amaro mount.

Also, I guess the new beast tribe is DoL only. <_<

My yellow and white scrips are good for my crafters right now, so I can jump on the Masterbook VIIIs between that and the custom deliveries. I'm going to make an effort to go to bed and wake up a smidge earlier than I already have to do so I can get a round of Beast Tribe quests done before needing to get ready for work on Tuesday; we'll see though.

Drk needs to do those last few Mt Gulg runs with the Trust NPCs, still. Pld and Gnb probably won't be hitting 80 before maintenance. Nin is doing well and all, but also won't be 80 in time. I had hoped to be able, as usual, to pour the new tribe's exp into my remaining jobs, but I guess that is not happening. Ah well.

I'll have to see what rewards, besides mount and minion(s) will be available from the tribe. If it's gathering materia, then we'll see how things go with the tokens and whatnot, or else I'll hold off on worrying about any gathering materia I need until later.

Well, Drk is 80 now. Pld is halfway-ish to 80 from 79, Gnb is halfway to 79 from 78, and Nin only just hit 78. When I log in after work, I'm going to polish the last couple hundred tomes I need so I can convert as many Goetia as possible.

Gods, it's aggravating a wee bit to have these jobs so close to cap before the big patch. haha
