Never played the first(waiting on the remaster) and am in a jrpg kick, I already know they're not connected.

What's good/bad about it? Is the dlc worth it? Etc.

I loved it, but I'm a sucker for long rpgs

I also didn't play it with the english voice acting, because the script is kind of cringey and I'd rather not hear some of that stuff said aloud in a language I can understand, ick

I beat the crap out of it before the DLC ever came out, so I never got a chance to play it because I was out of interest by then

It's a decent game, but a huge letdown down Xenoblade 1.

Pros: Beautiful words, fun to explore (but IMO exploration is worse than XC1 and XCX), good music, battles can be fun once everything "clicks" (until it gets old, see below), the final chapter is...pretty cool if you've played XC1 (really can't go into why, but trust me). Oh, and if you like lewd/fanservice stuff, there's that.

Cons: Plot is subpar and some of the main cast (including the main character) are absolutely insufferable (less of an issue if you do Japanese w/ subs), a bunch of cut scenes that are very cringe-worthy (particularly ones focused on the nopon party member), game likes to waste your time (in some cases to continue you'll have to complete a "mercenary mission" -- ie, wait like half an hour for your dudes to return from doing stuff on the side), battles are needlessly complicated and towards the end all feel kinda the same (rack up elemental orbs, do a chain attack and break them all to end the battle)

I enjoyed the prequel DLC, "Torna: The Golden Country" a lot more. The battle system is significantly improved and the characters much less annoying, plus I really love exploring the Torna titan especially the desert region. The plot may actually be even worse than XC2's, though

Xenoblade Chronicles X is also this gen, so that wins over it for me. There's also NieR Automata. and if remakes and previous gen ports count, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen are better, too.

After them? Yeah, I guess XC2.

This is so correct that it hurts. But with more British accents.

This is a good summary. Ah, the game also has some great music, btw. I think it is definitely worth playing, but it's got some pretty glaring flaws that keep it from being truly great.

I liked the characters, but never got round to finishing it. The combat system didn't click with me and the map was frustrating. Wasn't a fan of high level enemies flying down out of nowhere to one shot you.

Kind of a Xenoblade thing, though XC2 is definitely the worst about it, w/ some quests in particular.

At least in XC1 and XCX, you had icons next to the creature's name to denote if they were hostile/passive, and also if they detect by sight or sound.
XC2 intentionally removed that feature, thinking it an improvement. It was not.

Good music, although arguably the weakest sound track of the three Xenoblade games (if XCX didn't have such godawful music for the main battle themes and NLA themes, XC2 would inarguably be in last place, the rest of XCX's music is amazing.)
Not trying to be too critical...being last in music for Xenoblade is by no means a knock on it...the whole series is great for music. It just once again doesn't hold up to the other two in that area.

EDIT: In my first post I meant to say "beautiful worlds" not "words", lol
