It's hard for me to care because regardless of how I vote, the Democratic-Republican oligopoly will inevitably win.

Until there's a massive overhaul of the system and third (and fourth, etc.) parties are allowed on the final debate stages, I won't care.

Vote for Bernie Sanders at least. He's pro-campaign finance reform and he'll hopefully do more. He is an Independent running as a Democrat after all.

Get rid of the electoral system, that's your first step to making your vote actually count.

Actually it would. If enough people stopped catering to the two-party system and didn't vote, a ridiculously low voter turnout would show the government that they're completely out of touch with the people and it would give grassroots movements a lot more support and justification for overhauling the whole system.

Why would they care if they're out of touch if they won anyways? That just rewards gerrymandering and voter suppression.

Why would you think the people in power would even care, if you're so disenfranchised that you think voting wouldn't make a difference anyway?

Overhaul is a pipe dream. It's not a real thing.

On paper I'm liberal, but don't hold very many political opinions on either front. And I will be super honest - this is actually the first election where I'm considering not voting. I guess I just have yet to see how the voice of the people has any influence whatsoever, or how any of our daily lives are truly affected by any of this. Plus it's slim picking where a viable Democratic candidate is concerned, anyway. "Anyone but Trump" is equally scary as him getting reelected, so frankly I'd just rather wash my hands of the whole business. I've earned the right to be apathetic, I feel.

Oh, I don't know. Bankruptcy or the total depreciation of the American dollar at the hands of someone like Sanders, maybe?

What makes you think that? I bet something about Venezuela, well bad news for you their economy is turning around because Trump's tensions in Iran are causing oil prices to go up.

Well I don't know what any of that means so I guess it just goes to show you how much I care about or follow any of this in the first place, lol. The moral of the story is that things suck and will always suck and I've made my peace with that.

The 2016 election should've been the time show that we as a country had a real interest in 3rd party candidates. The major parties ran some very controversial folks.

Unfortunately, instead of anyone marketable we had fringe candidates like Gary Johnson and Jill Stein trying to get 3rd party votes. If someone of Perot's popularity would've run it could've really shaken things up.

Watch the video in post #14. Sanders, as an independent, is taking the best strategy as a 3rd party himself.

I think it's more important than ever that a candidate like Bernie wins.

Even if you don't fully support all of his policies, it would be a clear act of defiance from the American people showing that we don't want a traditional Democrat or Republican.

But unfortunately, Americans are stupid.

*nods* If he ran 3rd party it would just split the vote. (spoiler)

This is precisely why ranked voting is appearing in some states.

imo, it's just a matter of time.
