My grandpa doesn't unplug things, but he does have his whole TV setup on an outlet that he can turn off with a light switch. It wouldn't surprise me if he does unplug the microwave and things like it.

He's the kinda dude that turns the water off when he soaps up in the shower.

Yes, my grandmother did.

When I was staying at her place she would always unplug my n64, weird part was she would unplug the cables from the tv too.

Not like she was trying to stop us from playing it, the av plugs were on the front and she would leave them laying a half inch away. She just said it saved on power when the cousins and I weren't actually playing...

yea same grandma has a bunch of power strips for her stuff too. probably has spent more on all the power strips than she ever would on electricity tbh but the chinese r not to be reasoned with

I don't remember that being a thing for my grandparents, but I think we only ever actually unplugged appliances in thunderstorms.

Hehe..

Both sides of my family had something of an engineering background, so no they didn't.
But ya, most stand by features use a negligible amount of electricity.

Though I will say, I do have a few Kill-a-watts, or another brand, but it helps you track energy use, but that is mostly for the nerd in me.

I should add, I use a ton of Solar energy for small applications though.
It probably doesn't really save money, but in that way, I do unplug.

My wife's boyfriend told me I'm not allowed to plug in the Switch charger or dock unless it's charging.

Apparently vampire power is actually reasonably costly. This article says that the typical household spends 10% of each electric bill on it.

10% seems a bit much. That's a lot for a normal house.

I will say though. At some point, you are paying more to get electricity than for the electricity you us.
And that's where it all goes to shit. In terms of saving money.
In terms of footprint, that is a personal issue, with another set of goals.

its real but imo not worth unplugging stuff - i would think the average person has better ways to cut costs than the electric bill

someone who religiously unplugs their appliances could eat out one less time per year and make up the difference in the electricity bill

Then you pay $400 to replace an outlet that gets worn out from constant plugging and unplugging.

I find that very hard to believe, given that only 10% of our bill is energy usage.

Is that outlet made of gold or something?

I dunno, maybe that's the average and there's just one dude in Nebraska with a fuckload of phone chargers.
