"Free shit" is always more appealing than "we'll let you do it on your own", which is why democrat is effectively a "youth" party.
Also that's why college kids don't know much about either world war, apart from Hitler memes - that was like, eighty years ago, man!

Those on the right have this issue

They're unable to recognize that they have policies and behaviors that certain groups just plain dislike and can't sympathize or identify with

They're out of touch but their brains can't comprehend being wrong.

So instead of being like "hey our message isn't resonating with this group" they think "oh these people are stupid and will never support of because they're lazy, entitled, uneducated, etc"

Ignorance of history or any real accomplishments isnt a thing exclusive to college brats with Bernies nuts in their mouths. You could go out on the street and ask random Trump humpers how they feel about Obamas taxes having cost Americans billions of dollars and theyll be ready to spew negativity, that is until you mention those taxes were really Trump with his trade policies via those tacked on tariffs. The average politically active person doesnt know anything but pre-approved talking points and rhetoric about how the opposite major political party is bad.

A fella up in Canada here, Rick Mercer (Canadian version of Jon Stewart p much) had a segment on his show called "Talking to Americans" where he'd go out and ask people on the street in an American city random questions regarding politics and current events

There's a lot of stupid people in public lol

Well, there's a thing called compromise, and that's what an effective government runs on. There shouldn't need to be a supermajority of one party for anything to get passed. When Harry Reid was in charge of the Senate and the GOP was in control of the House, Reid tabled every single bill they put forward. There was no opportunity for discussion or compromise.

Whether that's happening again now with McConnell I could not say, but I would hope it is not the case. I know that the New Green Deal or whatever had no chance of even passing the democratic House because it's a completely idiotic and impossible bill to implement.

Both parties in Congress should be working together to find compromises. Trump has been doing a good job of actually doing that. He got the new budget passed by compromising with democrats.

That's why Dems haven't gotten muched accomplished.

I would consider trying to hold Trump accountable an accomplishment.
If I wasn't on the spot like these kids, I would also list defending the ACA, which was a miracle. I would like to say, "maybe letting it be repealed with no replacement would show voters how the GOP really operates," but history doesn't agree.

ehhhhhh

It was basically privatized universal care, which was a bad thing since costs to the consumer went up and there was no price limits, only the guarantee that preexisting conditions were no longer a factor in denying coverage (but still affected how much you paid for premiums)

plus the Supreme Court struck down the individual mandate, so suddenly people started opting out of insurance at all, legally. insurance, being a risk pool, reduces costs the most by having more participants. so, yeah, we're right back where we started, except the preexisting conditions part, which will only make insurance more expensive the less that people sign on

in other words: eliminate private insurance and create one large program that covers everyone, with price ceilings, otherwise enjoy paying out the nose for health care for eternity
